Troubleshooting

Symptom	Check and response
Cannot find a shared lib/ helper	Restore the complete tools checkout; symlink scripts rather than copying them.
ZIP lacks recent edits	Local packagers and runtime board tools read committed refs. Commit the intended changes or select the correct existing ref. --remote reads GitHub's default branch in all three package scripts.
ZIP includes development files	Review committed .gitattributes export-ignore rules and inspect the ZIP; packaging does not infer exclusions from .gitignore.
GitHub mode rejects tracked changes	For local source, commit intended changes or resolve them safely; its dry run has the same requirement. --remote packages the remote snapshot without changing local files.
HEAD is not available remotely	Push the intended commit to the correct repository before local GitHub-release mode.
Existing stable/alpha/beta/RC tag	Inspect remote state. Explicit --force permits intentional replacement but cannot bypass GitHub-enforced immutability or tag rules.
Upload/publication timeout	Inspect release, tag and assets before retrying; publication may already have succeeded.
Archived repository	Release publication is rejected. Decide intentionally whether the project should remain archived.
Old git-release-api.sh command is missing	Use the replacement commands.
Language feed unavailable	Supply a known existing --version; validation still needs its official reference on first use.
Language validation fails	Inspect fatal/error summary and packaged files. Warnings alone do not fail, but deserve review. Only 3.3 validation is supported.
No board found	Run setup for a disposable board, then pass --board-dir or set PHPBB_TEST_BOARD.
Board setup says it exists	Reuse it or deliberately choose another directory; --force replaces it.
Port 8083 is occupied	Choose an available --port; use a separate board for concurrent runs.
Unknown feature/screenshot project	Check the registered names in --help; add a specific routine if support is needed.
Missing dependency extension	Supply --with PATH[@REF] in dependency enablement order.
PHPUnit refuses missing functional directory	Add tests/functional/ (with .gitkeep when empty) as the project's test framework expects.
PHPUnit cache has no executable	Inspect the failed setup and use --update after resolving prerequisites.
Docker lint fails before scanning	Check Docker access and selected official image availability; this is not a passing lint result.
Chromium launch fails	Inspect Playwright installation output and its OS dependency error; do not treat missing captures as success.
PR monitor exits 5	No checks appeared within the configured first-check wait. Confirm workflows/permissions and trigger conditions.

Evidence to collect

Record the command, selected repository/ref or commit, exit status, relevant tool versions and the bounded error output. For a board failure inspect php-errors.log in its board directory. Remove credentials, private paths and sensitive content before sharing diagnostics.
