This adds custom emoji import from Misskey packed emoji ZIP archives in the
administration dashboard.
Uploaded archives are stored privately, an import job is created, and a Fedify
background task processes the archive. The import status page shows the job
state and imported, skipped, and failed counts.
The importer:
reads emoji names, categories, and image filenames from meta.json
validates actual image data and accepts PNG, JPEG, GIF, and WebP files
limits archive size, entry count, and extracted size
rejects unsafe archive paths
skips existing shortcodes without overwriting images
cleans up temporary archives and images left by failed registrations
Verification
mise run check
mise exec -- pnpm test --run src/custom-emoji-import-tasks.test.ts
Manually uploaded a Misskey packed emoji ZIP using filesystem storage and
confirmed emoji registration, status display, and temporary archive cleanup
Confirmed the same behavior using private S3-compatible object storage

The administration dashboard can upload Misskey packed emoji ZIP archives. Background jobs validate and import archive entries, record job results, and remove the stored archive.
Adds import-job state and ZIP size limits. Supports temporary archive storage in a local directory or a private S3-compatible bucket. Documents the settings and their mutual-exclusion requirement.
Dashboard upload and job status src/pages/emojis.tsx, CHANGES.md, changes.d/emoji-zip-import.md
Adds the ZIP upload form and submission route. Creates a pending job, enqueues it, and displays job status and counts. Adds changelog entries for the feature.
Adds ZIP extraction and manifest validation, imports eligible emoji images, records completion or failure, and recovers stale processing jobs. Registers the task with background jobs and tests a successful import.

Add tests for the validation and failure paths.
The file has one happy-path test. The importer's security and robustness logic has no coverage:
unsafe entry paths
entry-count and extracted-size limits
an existing shortcode being skipped without replacing its image
an unsupported image type
a missing meta.json or an invalid manifest
archive cleanup after failure (onError)
stale-job recover
Add at least tests for path rejection, the size limits, and duplicate skipping.
Based on learnings, "When implementing features, always: Include tests for new functionality."

Validate image content with sharp, not only the file-type signature.
fileTypeFromBuffer checks magic bytes only. A file with a valid PNG header can have extreme dimensions or corrupt data. The importer stores it publicly and registers it as an emoji. The manual POST / path has the same weakness, but this path accepts up to 1,000 images per archive.
sharp is already a dependency. Read the image metadata and skip images that fail to parse or exceed a dimension limit.
Define MAX_EMOJI_DIMENSION (for example, 1024) next to allowedTypes.
Based on learnings: "do not trust or validate based solely on client-supplied MIME type or file extension... validate the actual binary content (e.g., using an image-processing library like sharp...)".

fileTypeFromBuffer() checks only magic bytes, so the importer does not validate actual image contents. In a local run, a 45-byte .png file with an IHDR chunk declaring 100000×100000 pixels and no IDAT chunk was imported and served as image/png at /assets/emojis/huge-png.png. A truncated or corrupt image with a valid signature can be registered the same way. The PR description says the importer validates actual image data; this check does not.
sharp is already a dependency. Decode each candidate with sharp(content, { limitInputPixels: ... }).metadata() or re-encode it, reject unreadable images, and enforce a dimension or pixel limit. Misskey caps each emoji file at 32 MB, while this importer has only the 250 MiB total budget; add a per-image byte cap too. Handle failures per entry so one bad image cannot abort the job.

files is a plain object, and content == null does not prove that the archive contains the entry. For a fileName such as __proto__, files["__proto__"] resolves to Object.prototype, so the null check passes and fileTypeFromBuffer() throws a TypeError at line 138. That call sits outside the per-entry try, so the whole job aborts. I reproduced this with a manifest that referenced a missing __proto__ entry: one emoji was imported, then the job failed with TypeError: Expected the input argument to be of type Uint8Array or ArrayBuffer, got object, and the status page showed imported 0, skipped 0, failed 0.
Use a Map or Object.create(null) for extracted entries, check Object.hasOwn(), and move the type detection into the per-entry try so a malformed entry is counted instead of stopping the import.

This compensating delete is not guarded. If imageDisk.delete() throws after put() succeeded but the insert failed, the exception escapes the per-entry catch, the loop stops, and all counters for the run are lost. Wrap the delete in its own try/catch, log the failure, and still increment failedCount for this entry.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
The imported, skipped, and failed counts are written only in this final completed update. If the handler throws after some emojis were registered, onError() marks the job failed without saving those counts, so the status page shows 0 / 0 / 0 even though rows exist. onError() then deletes the archive at line 257, and retryPolicy: () => null disables retries, so the operator cannot rerun the job either. The same happens when archiveDisk.getBytes() fails before the loop: the archive is deleted and the job is permanently failed. I hit the count problem in the __proto__ case above: the imported emoji remained in the database while the job reported zero imports.
Persist progress before or during the run, or at least save the current counters in onError(). Decide how a failed job should be retried or resumed. If the archive is kept for a retry, add a cleanup policy for jobs that are never retried. The archive delete in onError() is not wrapped in try/catch either; a retry or a periodic sweep would cover a transient storage error in both paths.

Every import writes to emojis/${shortcode}.${extension}. If transaction A writes the object and then rolls back, its advisory lock is released before the catch block deletes the key. Transaction B can acquire the lock, write the same key, and commit; A's later delete then removes B's image, leaving B's custom_emojis row pointing at a missing file. The manual upload route in src/pages/emojis.tsx uses the same key pattern without this advisory lock, so a manual upload can be affected too.
Use a unique object key per attempt (for example, include the job ID or a UUID) and delete only the object owned by that attempt, or verify that no row references the key before deleting it. The two registration paths should share one duplicate policy.

The “Upload ZIP” action and the GET/emojis/zip form are rendered even when EMOJI_IMPORT_DISK is undefined. In that state the only feedback is a plain-text 503 Service Unavailable after the operator uploads a file. Hide or disable the action when storage is not configured, or render the ZIP page with a short configuration notice that names EMOJI_IMPORT_FS_PATH and S3_EMOJI_IMPORT_BUCKET.

The copy and labels do not match the rest of the dashboard. The heading uses title case (Upload Custom Emojis (ZIP)) while neighboring pages use sentence case. The link text is a sentence fragment with a leading space ( support Misskey's packed emoji format). The field label says Zip, the input still uses name="image" and aria-label="Emoji image Zip" from the single-image form, and the submit button says Add emoji instead of Upload ZIP. The target="_blank" link also lacks rel="noopener noreferrer". These are small, but this page is the entry point for the feature.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
The status page shows only aggregate counts and has no link back to /emojis or to a job list. Once the admin navigates away, there is no way to find the job again, and a failed job only says to check the server logs. Add a link back, and consider recording per-entry reasons for skipped and failed entries so the operator can see which emoji was dropped and why. The jobId == null check a few lines below is dead code because c.req.param("jobId") already returned a string.

The suite has one happy-path test. None of the security or failure behavior this PR advertises is covered: unsafe paths, entry-count and extracted-size limits, duplicate shortcodes across categories, missing or malformed meta.json, image validation, cleanup after a failed registration, archive removal on failure, recover(), and the new routes. The project guidelines require tests for new functionality, and these are the paths most likely to regress. Add focused tests for the rejection cases and for a partial failure, including the expected counts and storage state.

The section documents the variables but not the condition that enables the feature. Add a sentence that the ZIP import page returns 503 Service Unavailable unless EMOJI_IMPORT_FS_PATH or S3_EMOJI_IMPORT_BUCKET is set.
