A waiting approval card with no reason of its own fell back to "{done} using {tool name}". So a browser click waiting for your answer read "Clicked using browser_click": past tense before anything happened, and a developer name.

Now a waiting card shows no small print when its action line already says what will happen (Click "Subscribe"). Other tools get plain future wording such as "Would write file", "Would send a notification" or "Would use Gmail: send email". The device tools and browser_open got their own wording.

Closes #435

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Pending approval cards now describe the action the app would take in plain language, rather than wording that could imply it already happened. When an action is already stated, redundant small-print text is omitted.

📝 Walkthrough

Pending approval cards now use plain-language “would” wording when no action line is present. When an action line is present, the card omits the small print.

Changes: Approval-card small print

Pending-action labels
desktop/src/features/chat/toolMeta.ts, desktop/tests/approvalRisk.test.ts
Tool metadata adds or revises “would” labels for memory, history, date/time, file, folder, skill, web, reader, browser, and device tools. askingLabel returns a label when one is defined. A test checks the tool entries and screenshot wording.
Approval-card integration

waitingSmallPrint suppresses text when an action line is present and returns trimmed wording otherwise. ApprovalCard uses that fallback instead of the tool’s “done” label and tool name. Tests cover suppression, fallback wording, and blank inputs. The change note describes the wording update.

Pending cards now use prospective wording and accurate built-in tool labels. The remaining humanized MCP name predates this change, so no new merge risk remains.

Explanation

The changes remain within issue #435. They replace past-tense fallback text, add plain future labels for other tools, add focused tests, and add the related changelog entry. These changes support the issue requirement to check other tools that reach the fallback.

Full details: Linked Issues check

Explanation

Issue #435 requires a waiting card with no action line to use plain future wording, or to omit the line only when the action line already explains the action. ApprovalCard uses waitingSmallPrint(action, askingLabel(name)), and askingLabel returns null for known tools without would. skill_save has no would field, so its card can have no small print without an action line. The new test also fails because it requires every known tool to define would.

Resolution

Add a plain future would label for skill_save or otherwise provide compliant wording for every known fallback tool. Make the every known tool says what it would do while it waits test pass.

A rabbit checks the waiting card,
And finds no past-tense words to guard.
If action text is already there,
The small print leaves an empty square.
“Would” labels tell what tools may do,
Then off hops this rabbit, pleased and true.

before wouldLabel produces pending wording; ensure names such as
mcp_mailer_send_email do not appear as internal identifiers in user-facing copy,
while preserving the existing KNOWN metadata behavior.

Thanks @n-o-t-mugen, this reads much better! I built the app and checked it with Claude on a fresh home, denying every card:

  • Subscribe: "Sentient wants to sign you up for something [Signs up] / Click 'Subscribe'", with no small print.
  • Delete account: "[Deletes] / Click 'Delete account'", with no small print.
  • File write: "[Changes things] / Would write file".

Each label appears once, and none of them says "Clicked" or shows a tool name.

Two small things were needed, and I did both on your branch to save you a round trip:

  • merged main: #430 had added read_with_reader next to browser_open in toolMeta.ts, and I kept both;
  • renamed the changelog entry to changes/435.fixed.md. When there's an issue, the file takes its number (see changes/README.md).

Typecheck is clean and all 94 desktop tests pass. I'll merge once CI is green.

Two follow-ups I'm filing separately, not for this PR:

  • the tool row above a waiting card still says "Wrote file" / "Clicked" while it waits;
  • a file write could name the file ("Would write balcony-plants.txt").

Merged, thanks @n-o-t-mugen! I also took care of CodeRabbit's last point on your branch: every known tool now has would wording, so a waiting card never shows just its heading, and a desktop test guards it.
