Summary

Event themes require intl, but the shared CI setup does not explicitly request the extension. Provision it in PHP jobs and document the contributor prerequisite. Additional request tests verify rendered event-theme attributes and preserve the timezone alias sent to the browser.

Changes

  • Add intl to the shared PHP setup action's extension list.
  • Document intl in the contributor requirements.
  • Assert the rendered theme and unchanged clock payload for Asia/Calcutta and US/Eastern at local-day boundaries.

Validation

  • composer test:lint — passed with existing frontend promise warnings, using a task-local TMPDIR.
  • composer test:types — passed.
  • composer test:type-coverage — passed, 100%.
  • bun run test:unit — passed, 234 Node tests and 889 component tests.
  • php -d memory_limit=-1 vendor/bin/pest --parallel --ci --coverage --exactly=100.0 --passthru-php="'-d' 'memory_limit=-1'" with XDEBUG_MODE=coverage — passed, 5,642 tests, 30,483 assertions, 100% coverage.
  • Focused event-theme and middleware tests — passed, 114 tests, 373 assertions.
  • Composer lockfile installation, composer validate --strict, and production platform checks — passed with intl and ICU enabled.
  • Composite action YAML and git diff --check — passed.

Tests used an isolated local PostgreSQL container. No application or frontend behavior changes relative to production; visual and device testing are inapplicable.

Independent review

Sol 6.1, high reasoning, fast service: PASS, no actionable findings for correctness, regressions, architecture, or meaningful test coverage. Visual review: N/A.

Reviewed base 7f19c12b482478d808e953d2c7f4bc9254e5db5b → head b504c7bdbd3c01ecb2f6031ee0b910d539dbb6cb. Review includes the merge resolution against both parents. The production event-theme implementation and Composer files are preserved exactly, including their runtime requirements; all existing tests are retained.

Limitations

Hosted CI for the latest revision is pending. Local validation uses current ICU; no separate older-ICU runtime or production verification was performed.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Tests
    • Added coverage for how browser time-zone aliases affect the home page’s clock and event-theme settings.
  • Documentation
    • Updated the contribution prerequisites to specify PHP 8.5 or later with the intl extension.

Walkthrough

The PHP setup action and contributing prerequisites now include the intl extension. A feature test checks Halloween theme attributes, Inertia data, and the reported clock time zone for the Asia/Calcutta and US/Eastern aliases.

Merge Risk: Minimal · up to b504c

No actionable merge-blocking risk remains; the required extension is enforced and the alias regression coverage is valid.

Security architecture risk: Low · up to 4479a

Theme and timezone inputs remain constrained, with no identified increase in access or privileges. The main concern is deployment compatibility: ordinary web requests now require the ICU date formatter, but the application does not declare that extension as a requirement. Production availability of the extension remains unverified.

Retained concerns

  • Low · reliability · inferred: The change promotes ICU formatting from a cookie-dependent capability to an unconditional prerequisite for web requests. A runtime without ext-intl would now fail even cookie-free requests before the appearance middleware forwards them. Dependency declarations do not enforce this prerequisite; whether production is affected remains unverified.
Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The identified failure exposure covers requests traversing the web appearance middleware, including guest requests. The inspected change does not establish exposure of API middleware, another service, tenant data, credentials, or privileged operations.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • inferred — The compared source does not show an expanded authority boundary: client-supplied choices still resolve to fixed presentation values, and timezone input still passes the existing ICU validation. No changed path from these cookies to authorization, persistence, or a privileged sink was identified.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • inferred — Formatter availability is not isolated to optional theme rendering: construction happens before the appearance middleware calls the next handler. A missing extension therefore prevents request completion rather than merely disabling the theme. Existing cookie-dependent ICU usage predates this PR and limits the novelty of this risk.

Declare the intl extension as required.

This formatter runs even when the request has no time_zone cookie. If ext-intl is absent, requests through HandleAppearance fail with a class-not-found error. Composer does not require the extension, so installation can succeed in that environment. Add ext-intl to composer.json and provision it in deployment environments. (raw.githubusercontent.com)
