feat: show latest hot topic matches and suggest hot topics in search - #1463
Show hot-topic commit matches newest first by default, remove the redundant mobile focus outline from semantic-search tabs, and replace canned search suggestions with current hot topics.
This is a separate follow-up to #1452, with three commits:
Apply latest() to hot-topic results and simplify mobile search-tab focus.
Replace suggested searches with hot topics in the search dialog and results page.
Prevent hovering hot topics from running searches; preserve prefetch for other results.
Changes
Reuse the supplied semantic matches, filtering to the past seven days and sorting newest first without another commit search. Hot-topic rendering uses the shared server timestamp to keep server and browser filtering consistent.
Keep Most relevant as the regular search default. Mobile tabs use their selected underline as the focus indicator; desktop keyboard focus retains its outline.
Reuse the existing shared hot-topic data and sidebar list in the search page. Topic options in the dialog support pointer and keyboard navigation to the topic page, while recent searches keep their existing behavior.
Handle missing/empty topic lists and completed guest searches without displaying a perpetual loading message, including throttled searches. Remove the unused canned suggestions and give repeated hot-topic regions unique accessible heading IDs.

Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Search dialogs and results pages display current hot topics. Selecting a topic opens its recap with matching commits from the past week, newest first.
Signed-in users see their three most recent distinct searches above hot topics; guests see neither hot topics nor retained search history.
Empty searches provide clearer guidance, and topic options appear when a search has no results.
Bug Fixes
Recent commit results use the page’s current time, improving consistency in which commits appear.
Documentation
Updated search guidance to describe hot topics, recaps, and recent-search availability.
Search surfaces now show hot topics instead of predefined suggested queries. Selecting a topic opens its headline page, which displays matching commits from the previous seven days, newest first. Signed-in users also see recent searches.

The search page and dialog display hot topics instead of predefined suggestions, and the search page renders recent searches. Selecting a dialog topic opens its headline page. Topic links disable prefetching, and the HotTopics heading uses a generated ID. Tests cover topic keyboard interactions and guest search states.
The headline page filters matching commits to the previous seven days using the page timestamp, then passes the results to SearchResults. A test checks the supplied timestamp.
dev-null-sh/dev-null.sh#1452: Introduces the seven-day, newest-first results that this change applies using a render timestamp.

Merge Risk: Minimal · up to b4a1c
The changed search and headline behavior has no established merge-blocking risk.
Security architecture risk: Low · up to 2ae68
The new navigation uses existing authenticated routes and viewer-filtered data. No authorization regression was identified. Automatic topic prefetching can add search work before navigation, while its cancellation, caching, and failure-recovery behavior remains unverified.
Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.
Security review details
Security Blast Radius
inferred — The demonstrated expansion is additional navigation and speculative access to an existing same-origin headline endpoint under the current user's identity. Full requests can invoke embedding, database, and relevance work, but retain the existing per-user rate limit. No new service credentials, privilege grant, or cross-tenant authority was identified in this flow.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
observed — The server remains the enforcement point: the route requires authentication, the controller supplies the authenticated viewer, and result queries enforce viewer visibility. The dialog adds a consumer of the same topic set already exposed in the aside rather than a new data producer or authorization path.
Resilience and Maintainability Implications
observed — Existing logout behavior flushes prefetched pages, and local sign-in regenerates the session and forces a full location change. These are relevant identity-transition controls, but do not prove cancellation, failed-prefetch cleanup, or cache invalidation across every authentication transition.

Full details: Title check
Explanation
The title names the two primary changes: showing the latest hot-topic matches and suggesting hot topics in search. The changeset matches both. The search dialog and search page replace canned suggested queries with hot topics, and the hot-topic recap now shows commits from the past seven days, newest first. The title omits the mobile search-tab focus indicator change, which is a minor secondary part of the work and does not need to be in the title.

Explanation
Docstring coverage is 14.29% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 7 functions across 7 files. Resolution
Write docstrings for the functions missing them to satisfy the coverage threshold.
