test(virtual-core): pin the iOS deferral and index-scroll orderings measured for #1307 - #1308
Conversation
…ack#1307 Six test.fails cases document orderings the summed deferral gets wrong, five passing tests pin behaviour a redesign should not change by accident. Adds an instrumented e2e page (ios-deferral) used to check the same orderings in real iOS Safari.
…ver let land Adds finger-down and late-resize triggers to the ios-deferral page.
…e landing, non-iOS Repro from the TanStack#1307 thread: the index-scroll state survives a user scroll whenever the target moved before reconcile saw it land, not only when iOS ignores the write under a finger.

📝 Walkthrough
Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to The PR is mergeable with a bounded test-coverage gap: the iOS drag scenario should model the ignored scroll write before the test is relied on to protect that behavior. Pre-merge checks |

2555-2573: 🎯 Functional Correctness | 🔵 Trivial | ⚡ Quick winExercise the active-touch path in
makeDeferralHarness.The fixture has no
addEventListener, so the virtualizer never sets_iosTouching. ItsscrollToFnalso always accepts writes. Theh.scrollcalls only simulate offset callbacks and overwritescrollTopdirectly. Therefore, the final60assertion can detect a generic activescrollToIndex, but it does not test the iOS case where the initial write is ignored during a touch.Add a touch-start hook that activates the virtualizer's listener and makes
scrollToFnignore writes while the touch is active. Invoke it beforescrollToIndex, and assert that the initial write does not change the starting offset.Suggested fix

test.failspinning orderings that give the wrong result onmaintoday. Each asserts the wanted behaviour, so it starts failing (and the.failshas to come off) once the case is fixed:cancelScroll, scrollBy, a gesture and the safety valve each ending an index scroll between a measurement and the retarget write, losing the resizescrollOffsetbetween ascrollToIndexwrite and its scroll event, overwriting the index scroll (cross-platform, tracked separately)Five passing tests for behaviour a redesign should keep or change on purpose: the momentum baseline, forward vs backward re-measure, a custom
shouldAdjustScrollPositionOnItemSizeChangeopting out, the first measure of the row spanning the viewport top, and the non-iOS counterpart of the gesture case. The final assertions of the failing tests are on
scrollTopand row positions. Three of the passing tests (re-measure direction, custom predicate, first measure) do read the private_iosDeferredAdjustment, as does one intermediate check in the replay test, because "what was deferred" is what they pin. Those will need rewording if the field goes away.packages/react-virtual/e2e/app/ios-deferral/A page that logs scroll and touch events,
scrollToFnwrites andresizeItemcalls with the virtualizer state at each entry. Query parameters arm a raw write, a resize or ascrollToIndexon the nth scroll event of a momentum or finger-down phase. It asserts nothing and no spec drives it: the gestures have to be real touches. The page posts its log to
/log, which nothing in the repo serves. I used a small local server for that;window.__t.logholds the same data if you would rather read it from the inspector.✅ Checklist
