Why

deploy-prd.yml deploys after the CI workflow passes, and it ships the ingest binary. But cargo test lived in ingest-rust-tests.yml, a separate workflow that CI passed never waited on (ci.yml excludes apps/ingest/**). So a merge whose Rust tests failed still deployed.

What

  • ci.yml adds two path-gated jobs, and CI passed now requires both:
    • ingest-rust: cargo test --locked and the release build.
    • otel-collector: gofmt, vet and go test -race, moved in from otel-collector-maple-tests.yml.
  • They use their own path filters, not *base. A JS lockfile or tsconfig change doesn't start a Rust or Go build.
  • ingest-rust-tests.yml is now ingest-bench.yml. It holds only the opt-in bench-ingest load benchmark, which no longer reruns cargo test, so its PR comment drops the cargo test section.
  • No change in job count for ingest or collector PRs. CI passed is still the only required check.

Verification

  • actionlint reports no new findings. The parallel: and SC2012 findings were already on main.
  • This PR edits ci.yml, which is in both new filters, so both new jobs run on it.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Tests
    • Automated checks now cover the ingest and OpenTelemetry collector components, including Rust and Go validation.
    • Ingest benchmarks can be run from qualifying pull requests or manually; pull-request runs require the benchmark label.
    • Benchmark runs now build release binaries before running benchmarks and no longer include Rust test output.
    • The separate OpenTelemetry collector test workflow was removed; its checks are handled by the main CI workflow.

…tor Go tests

deploy-prd waits on the CI workflow, but cargo test lived in its own workflow
that CI passed never saw, so main could ship an ingest binary whose tests failed.

- ci.yml gains path-gated `ingest-rust` (cargo test + release build) and
`otel-collector` (gofmt, vet, go test) jobs, both in the CI passed needs.
- ingest-rust-tests.yml becomes ingest-bench.yml: only the opt-in
`bench-ingest` load benchmark, which no longer reruns cargo test.
- otel-collector-maple-tests.yml is folded into ci.yml.

Maple review

🟢 Confidence 8/10 · likely safe to merge
Held at 8 because a warning is open.
1 warning −1 · tests not needed · risk medium

Moves the ingest Rust and OTel collector Go suites into ci.yml as path-gated jobs under CI passed, and reduces ingest-rust-tests.yml to the opt-in bench-ingest benchmark. The deploy gating works as intended; the new Rust job's timeout is too tight for the work it inherits.

  • CI passed now needs ingest-rust and otel-collector, so deploy-prd waits on them
  • ingest-bench.yml keeps only the label-gated load benchmark
  • otel-collector-maple-tests.yml is deleted, its three steps moved verbatim

Findings

🟠 Warning · F1 · ingest-rust has 20 minutes for a job the old one gave 45

correctness · .github/workflows/ci.yml:583-605

This job runs the same two commands the removed Ingest Rust Tests job ran with timeout-minutes: 45, but gives them 20. They are two full compilations of the 410-crate graph in apps/ingest/Cargo.lock (debug for cargo test, then release), and the release half starts from scratch whenever Cargo.lock, mise.toml or the rustc version changes, which is exactly when this job is triggered. A timeout here fails CI passed, blocking the merge and the prd deploy the change is meant to protect. For comparison, build-ingest-binary.yml:22 budgets 30 minutes for the release build alone, on an arm runner with its own cargo cache.

Raise `timeout-minutes` to 45, matching the job this replaces, or split the release build into its own job so the test timeout can stay tight.

`ingest-rust` has 20 minutes for a job the old one gave 45
This job runs the same two commands the removed `Ingest Rust Tests` job ran with `timeout-minutes: 45`, but gives them 20. They are two full compilations of the 410-crate graph in `apps/ingest/Cargo.lock` (debug for `cargo test`, then release), and the release half starts from scratch whenever `Cargo.lock`, `mise.toml` or the rustc version changes, which is exactly when this job is triggered. Suggested fix: Raise `timeout-minutes` to 45, matching the job this replaces, or split the release build into its own job so the test timeout can stay tight.
What was checked
  • deploy-prd.yml gates on the whole CI workflow_run conclusion, so a failed new job blocks the deploy
  • Deleted otel-collector-maple-tests.yml held only the three steps now in ci.yml's otel-collector job, verbatim
  • Removed cargo test needs no workflow env: only load_test.rs reads LOAD_TEST_*/HEAD_INGEST_MODE

📝 Walkthrough

The CI workflow adds path-gated Rust ingest and Go collector checks to the required CI aggregation. The ingest benchmark workflow becomes opt-in, builds both release binaries, and removes cargo test output from its generated comment.

Changes: CI workflow updates

Layer / File(s) Summary
Path-gated CI checks
.github/workflows/ci.yml, .github/workflows/otel-collector-maple-tests.yml
The CI workflow adds ingest and collector path filters and jobs, then includes both jobs in the required CI aggregation. The standalone collector test workflow is removed.
Opt-in ingest benchmark
.github/workflows/ingest-bench.yml, scripts/ci/format-ingest-benchmark-comment.ts
The benchmark workflow runs on manual dispatch or labeled pull requests. It builds both release binaries, gates benchmark steps on the build result, and removes cargo test output from the generated comment.

Maple review

🟢 Confidence 10/10 · safe to merge
CI-only change: path filters, job steps and the CI passed needs list line up with what the removed workflows ran, and the timeout concern is now 30 minutes.
no findings · tests not needed · risk medium

Moves the ingest Rust tests and the collector's Go checks into ci.yml as path-gated jobs that CI passed requires, so a red Rust build no longer deploys. Safe to merge.

  • ingest-rust and otel-collector jobs added to ci.yml and required by CI passed
  • ingest-rust gets 30 minutes, persist-credentials: false on both checkouts
  • ingest-bench.yml keeps only the opt-in load benchmark

Fixed since the last review

  • ✅ F1 · ingest-rust has 20 minutes for a job the old one gave 45
What was checked
  • telemetry.rs:7875 includes the scraper fixture; the ingest filter lists it
  • No path filters on on:, so changes and both gates run for every PR
  • deploy-prd.yml:26 gates on the whole CI run conclusion, so skipped jobs cannot block it
