A single-file interactive guide to Herdr, the terminal workspace manager for AI coding agents — plus a keyboard minigame that drills the real keybindings until they stick.
No build step, no dependencies, no server. One HTML file you can open from disk.

26 tasks across 6 levels, all real bindings — nothing invented.
- You're given a task: "Split the pane to the right."
- You must genuinely arm the prefix with ctrl+b, release, then press the action key — the same two-step model Herdr uses.
- Esc disarms, exactly like the real thing.
- The embedded pane view reacts: splitting splits,
prefix+zzooms,prefix+bhides the sidebar,prefix+qshows the detached state with "server still up". - Five correct in a row levels you up and unlocks harder bindings, including
the
shiftvariants. - Score, streak and personal best persist in
localStorage.
Wrong keys are rejected with the binding you actually wanted, so the failure mode teaches too.
Every keybinding, command, config path and file location in this guide comes from the official Herdr docs. The agent guide is explicit that you should not invent keybindings, config keys, or CLI flags — so anything not covered by those two pages (the socket API, the full CLI reference) is linked to rather than documented.
If Herdr's docs change, this guide can drift. Treat herdr.dev/docs as canonical.

Checked in headless Chromium via Playwright, not assumed:
- no console errors
- wrong key correctly rejected
- ctrl+b arms prefix mode; correct key scores; Esc disarms
- a 6/6 run scores 60 and triggers the level-up
- responsive down to a 420px viewport
