Translation

Translate selected text with your own AI translation server and extensions for your desktop, browser, or email client.

  • Translation API GitHub — The shared server, using Ollama and translategemma:4b by default.
  • TranslatePlace GitHub — A GNOME Shell extension with two target languages, configurable shortcuts, local history, and optional automatic replacement of selected text.
  • WebTranslatePlace GitHub — Extensions for selected drafts in Chrome/Chromium and Firefox, selected email text in Thunderbird, and Discord messages. Start with the Translation API README to install Ollama, download the model, and run the server on your computer. Then follow your chosen extension's README. Both extensions connect to http://127.0.0.1:5001 by default. WebTranslatePlace also has Safari and GNOME Web targets; Safari requires live verification, and GNOME Web is experimental with known failures.
