RUXAILAB

Open Source tools to create the Usability LAB of the future.

WELCOME TO RUXAILAB (aka Uramaki Lab)

For a long time, the evaluation of user interfaces by user testing techniques, has been one of the most successful ways to get feedback from the users. HCI experts usually perform their experimental evaluations sessions in usability labs, indoor facilities with equiped with expensive and not available devices for everybody like eye-tracking devices or multi-rooms with specialised software.

The main goal of RUXAILAB is to create a set of open-source toolchains that helps to perform usability tests in a remote environment based on Artificial Intelligence. Our core is a system that allows to do remote heuristic tests and share the studies to other participants, creating at the same time a social network of developers who wants to get in touch with the studies of their colleagues.

In 2024 we participated on Google Summer of Code intership project and it was amazing! Since then, we have published multiple papers and we have won a prize for democratizing the evaluation of usability and accessibility studies. On 2025, we expect to keep up the development of a new brand accessibility system to fulfill WCAG standard using AI. Moreover, we will keep improving our EyeTracking and Sentimental Analysis system and integrate them into the user testing functionalities.

Feel free to report bugs, suggest features or work on existing ones to any of the repositories in the organization. Please try to be descriptive and clear.

Issues & Contribution Guidelines

To keep communication smooth and contributions effective, please follow these guidelines:

🔹 Issue Ownership & Picking Work

  • We use labels such as good-first-issue to help contributors find suitable tasks.
  • Maintainers do not actively triage or assign most issues.
  • Contributors are encouraged to pick an issue themselves and start working on it.
  • You do not need prior assignment to open a Pull Request.

🔹 Pull Requests

  • Multiple people may work on the same issue.
  • PRs are reviewed in the order they arrive.
  • In most cases, the first PR will still require adjustments or additional work.
  • We strongly value quality over quantity: a well-thought-out PR is always preferred over many rushed ones.

🔹 Communication & Expectations

  • Before starting, make sure you:

    • Understand the issue clearly
    • Have enough time to complete the work
  • Open discussions and feedback are welcome and encouraged.

🔹 About AI-assisted Contributions

  • We are aware that many PRs are AI-assisted 🤖😄
  • This is not an issue by itself, but code quality, correctness, and maintainability remain mandatory.

🔹 Original Issue Authors

  • The person who created the issue still has preference to work on it.
  • If they choose not to or do not respond in a reasonable time, others are welcome to contribute.

Google Summer of Code 2025

RUXAILAB would like to express his interest to participate on the 2025 edition. For this reason we are asking our community to help us to determinate the project proposals that you are most interested in. So many contributors appeared during the last year and now it is time to join us to co-create the features for 2025. We appreciate your work and enthusiasm and we would like that you came in touch with the community. In our organization, we value people who are proactive, hardworking and that sees always the big picture, thinking about how their work can contribute to the community and to the open source world, thus it is a good idea to start collaborating with us early so we can get to know you better.

Read carefully the project idea page on the gsoc repository and get in touch with us throught the different communication channels available!
