Why

The quic.github.io landing page has been retired and GitHub Pages is currently
un-published for this repository. The root URL should not return as an active or
indexable page.

Un-publishing Pages also disabled 404.html, which GitHub served as the catch-all
for unmatched paths. That file was forwarding legacy URLs for repositories that
moved to the qualcomm organization, so three paths are currently dead with no
forwarding:

  • quic.github.io/efficient-transformers
  • quic.github.io/tps-location-sdk-native
  • quic.github.io/tps-location-sdk-android

This change keeps those redirects working without bringing the website back.

Note that project pages such as quic.github.io/startupkits/ and
quic.github.io/aimet-pages/ are served by their own repositories and were never
affected by un-publishing this one.

What

Reduce the repository to a redirect-only stub:

  • Remove all content pages, the Jekyll build (_config.yml, Gemfile*), layouts,
    includes and theme assets.
  • Add .nojekyll so the repository is served as-is with no build step.
  • Rewrite 404.html as a standalone page: no front matter, no site branding, plus a
noindex, nofollow directive. The redirect map and path-rewriting logic are
    unchanged.
  • Delete robots.txt and sitemap.xml. sitemap.xml advertised the retired root at
    priority 1.0.

With no root index.html, GitHub Pages serves 404.html with a real HTTP 404 status
for the root and for any unmatched path. The root is therefore not a valid page and the
404 status is itself a de-indexing signal, while the migrated repository paths forward
as before.

Note for future maintainers

robots.txt should not be reintroduced with a blanket Disallow: /. It is scoped to the
whole hostname rather than to a path prefix, so a disallow at this root would tell
crawlers to drop every project page still served under quic.github.io by other
repositories.

Sequencing

This PR should be merged before GitHub Pages is re-enabled, so the retired landing
page is never served. After merge, re-enable Pages with source main / / (root).

Verification

Redirect logic was exercised locally against the paths below, confirming sub-path, query
string and fragment are preserved and that unmapped paths fall through to the 404:

Request Result
/efficient-transformers/ https://qualcomm.github.io/efficient-transformers/
/tps-location-sdk-android/docs/guide.html?v=2#install https://qualcomm.github.io/tps-location-sdk-android/docs/guide.html?v=2#install
/ no redirect, falls through to 404
/startupkits/ no redirect, falls through to 404

All four redirect targets were confirmed to return HTTP 200.

After Pages is re-enabled, the root should return 404, the three paths above should
forward, and the project pages under quic.github.io should continue to return 200.

🤖 Generated with Claude Code

The quic.github.io landing page has been retired. This removes the site
content so that the root URL no longer serves an active page, while
keeping the redirects for repositories that moved to the qualcomm
organization.

Remove the Jekyll build, layouts, includes, theme assets and all content
pages. Add .nojekyll so the repository is served as-is, and rewrite
404.html as a standalone page with no front matter, no site branding and
a noindex directive. With no root index.html, GitHub Pages serves
404.html with an HTTP 404 status for the root and any unmatched path.

Delete robots.txt and sitemap.xml. Both are host-scoped rather than
path-scoped, and sitemap.xml advertised the retired root URL. Note that
robots.txt must not be reintroduced with a blanket disallow, as that
would deindex the project pages served by other repositories under the
same hostname.
