✨ Report ObjectStatus resource instead of version/kind via RESTMapper - #3127
Replace the ObjectStatus version and kind fields with a single resource field (lowercase, plural resource name) and resolve it from the object's GroupVersionKind using a RESTMapper. Falls back to the lowercased kind when the type is not yet known to the mapper.

API Changes
Object status now identifies objects by resource name instead of API version and kind. The required resource name must be 1–63 characters and meet DNS-1035 label requirements.
Bug Fixes
Phase-level validation errors are reported as precondition failures with a timed retry once earlier phases are complete. Errors in paused downstream phases are ignored while earlier phases roll out; collision reporting remains available for paused phases.

The status object identity changes from API version and kind to a required resource name. Reconcile and teardown status generation use a REST mapper to resolve resource names, with a lowercased kind fallback.

Summary
Status contract and generated schemas api/v1/clusterobjectset_types.go, applyconfigurations/api/v1/objectstatus.go, applyconfigurations/internal/internal.go, helm/olmv1/base/object-controller/crd/experimental/*, manifests/experimental*.yaml
ObjectStatus replaces Version and Kind with required Resource. The apply configuration adds WithResource. Generated CRD schemas require a 1–63 character resource that passes DNS-1035 label validation.
Resource resolution in status updates internal/object-controller/controllers/clusterobjectset_controller.go, internal/object-controller/status/status.go, internal/object-controller/status/status_test.go
Reconcile and teardown pass a REST mapper to status helpers. The helpers resolve resource names through the mapper and fall back to the lowercased kind if mapping is unavailable or fails. Tests use mapped plural resource names. Reconciliation phase-status handling also reports phase-level preflight validation errors as PreconditionsNotMet with a timed retry when preceding phases are complete.
No concrete merge-blocking failure is established. The mapper fallback would benefit from a regression test, but the change is mergeable after normal checks.

Docstring coverage is 50.00% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 4 functions across 6 files. Add a test for the mapper-miss fallback.
testMapper comments that unknown types fall back to the lowercased kind, but no test covers that path. No test covers a nil mapper either. Add a case using a kind absent from testMapper, such as Foo, and assert foo. Add one more with a nil mapper.

Unverified finding
Verification ran but could not confirm this finding. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.
Guard the fallback so it always satisfies the DNS-1035 validation.
On a mapper miss, resourceFor returns strings.ToLower(ref.Kind). The CRD requires a 1–63 character DNS-1035 label. Kinds are normally CamelCase letters, so the fallback passes. An empty or malformed Kind fails. One failing entry rejects the whole status update for the ClusterObjectSet.
The mapper also misses for a CRD from an earlier phase before discovery refreshes. Kinds like Foo lowercase to foo, but the real resource is foos. The reported value is therefore a kind, not a plural resource, until the next reconcile. This matches the documented design. Do not rely on it in consumers.
Add a minimal safeguard for the validity case. Also add a test for a mapper miss.
Suggested hardening
- return strings.ToLower(ref.Kind)+ if k := strings.ToLower(ref.Kind); k != "" {+ return k+ }+ return "unknown"
