🐛 Count the separator in ObjectNameForBaseAndSuffix length check - #3098
ObjectNameForBaseAndSuffix joins base and suffix with -, but its truncation check compares only len(base)+len(suffix) against the 63-character limit. When the two add up to exactly 63 characters, the function returns a 64-character name.
The renderer builds the webhook Service name with this helper (<deployment>-service). For a registry+v1 bundle whose webhook deployment name is 56 characters long, the rendered Service name is 64 characters long, and the API server rejects it because Service names must be valid DNS-1035 labels (at most 63 characters). Names from 57 characters up are already truncated correctly; only the exact boundary is affected.
This change counts the separator in the length check. The output changes only for inputs where len(base)+len(suffix) == 63, which previously produced 64-character names. Generated ClusterRole, Role, cert Secret and Issuer names at that boundary also shrink to 63 characters.
Tests: Test_ObjectNameForBaseAndSuffix_SeparatorCountsTowardMaxLength fails on main (should have 63 item(s), but has 64) and passes with this change. Test_ObjectNameForBaseAndSuffix_ShortNameIsNotTruncated covers the largest input that is left unchanged.

The webhook Service name is built with this helper, so a bundle whose
deployment name is 56 characters long renders a 64-character Service
name, which the API server rejects.

ObjectNameForBaseAndSuffix now includes the hyphen separator when checking the 63-character limit. Tests cover names below, at, and above the limit.

Summary
Name length check and boundary tests internal/operator-controller/rukpak/util/util.go, internal/operator-controller/rukpak/util/util_test.go
The helper includes the separator in its length check and truncates the base when needed. Tests check expected names for three length cases and confirm that each result is no longer than 63 characters.
Existing cert-manager-backed webhooks with 51-byte deployment names may reject requests during upgrades. Preserve trust through the certificate migration before merging.

Hey, thank you for the contribution!! What do you think about collapsing these tests into a tabular test? (including Test_ObjectNameForBaseAndSuffix above). Basically, name + suffix < 63, == 63, and > 63 test cases...

Done in 779d008. Test_ObjectNameForBaseAndSuffix is now a table test with the less than, equal to, and more than 63 character cases, and the two separate tests are gone.
Cover base and suffix lengths that add up to less than, exactly, and
more than 63 characters in one table.

Preserve webhook trust during certificate-name migration
For an existing cert-manager-backed webhook with a 51-byte deployment name, the upgrade creates a new self-signed Certificate and changes the injection source. If the CA changes before old pods are replaced, webhook calls to those pods can fail TLS verification. Preserve trust for both certificates during the rollout.

@perdasilva The table test is in 779d008, and that was the only open thread. One upgrade effect to be aware of: names that used to come out at 64 characters now come out at 63. For a webhook deployment name of 51 to 55 characters, that changes the generated certificate, secret and self-signed issuer names (the Service name was already 64 characters and invalid for 56 or more). The same applies to names from DefaultUniqueNameGenerator whose base and hash add up to 63 or more. On upgrade, those objects are created under the new name, and a cert-manager-backed webhook gets a new CA, so calls to old pods can fail TLS verification until the rollout completes. Let me know if you want that handled in this PR.
