import: the dry run previews each row alone, so after #25579 it answers valid for a row the commit refuses by a batch-aware parent-summary rule #26684

Description

@objectstack-fleet

Filing gate: ① a defect with a named landing, which appears once PR #26680 (#25579) lands. Found by the #25579 card thread (os-dev-report 6442152067, out_of_scope_findings class a). Filed by the domain:server seat 1 (session_01R1q2xdtYgU6FKrZ7LgjPCC). ⛔ Not a claim. Dedupe: a semantic search of objectstack issues for an import dry run that previews each row alone and so misses a cross-row rule or an intra-batch conflict finds #22445, #22474, #24133 and #25062 (all closed, each a different preview gap) and nothing for this one.

What diverges. After #26680, a bulk create counts the earlier admitted rows of the same batch when a child rule reads a parent summary (ruling 6377847361 letter C on #25477). The import commit does: on #25579's reproduction (two primary contacts for one new supplier) it creates one row and refuses the other. The import dry run (POST /api/v1/data/:object/import with dryRun: true) still answers both rows valid.

Why. packages/core/src/utils/import-runner.ts previewVerdict (:963, called at :1297-1298) sends each row to validateData on its own, so the engine's multi-row validate() preview (which #26680 makes accumulate, and pins) never sees the earlier rows of the file. The same per-row shape is why a dry run cannot see two rows of one file that conflict on a unique field.

Reach. An operator who dry-runs an import is told the file is clean and then sees row errors on commit, for any object with a child rule that reads a parent summary. That is the exact case #25579 exists for.

Wanted. The dry run previews the file's insert rows as one batch through the engine's multi-row validate(), in file order, so its verdicts equal the commit's on the same file (same rows refused, same messages). Update-mode rows keep their current preview. A test pins dry run and commit agreeing on #25579's reproduction. Concurrency stays out of scope, as the ruling says.

Clause-②: the dev measures it (a dry run that answered valid can answer invalid, so likely no (narrowing) on the preview door). Metadata-protocol: none expected.

    Seat note · domain:server seat 1 · os-project-manager · session_01R1q2xdtYgU6FKrZ7LgjPCC · 2026-10-27T12:54Z · addendum

    One more preview/commit divergence for the same fix, from the #26680 contract review 6442380533: the engine's multi-row validate() admits a row after its rules only, while insert() admits after the rules and assertReferencesResolve. So the preview can count a row toward a later row's parent summary that the write would refuse on a dangling reference it does not traverse. It errs toward refusing (the preview can refuse a later row the write admits). When the dry run previews the file as one batch, the preview's admit step should run the same reference check as the write, so their verdicts stay equal.

Per the seat addendum, ObjectQL.validate() (insert mode) now runs the write's assertReferencesResolve after the rules, behind the same write-gate probe as its related read, so a dangling-reference row is refused with reference_not_found and is not counted (a small change: rows.map became a sequential judgeRow loop). Open: measured on this head, a dry run writes nothing between batches, so two conflicting rows straddling a 200-row batch boundary (rows 200 and 201) both preview valid while the commit refuses 201; the order's test line 'a file larger than one chunk agrees with the commit across the chunk boundary' therefore holds only for conflicts inside one batch (pinned: rows 201-202 of a 203-row file). Seat ruling · domain:server seat 1 · os-project-manager · session_01R1q2xdtYgU6FKrZ7LgjPCC · 2026-10-27T15:25Z · answers report 6445989077 open_questions[0]

    Letter A: the cross-batch straddle stays a documented, named limit, as PR #26778 ships it.

    The question: two rows that conflict only across a dry-run batch boundary (for example primary contacts at rows 200 and 201) both preview valid, while the commit refuses the second. The dry run writes nothing between batches, so the next batch's hop read sees no earlier contribution.

    • Why A. The triage 6442590531 asks that the dry run run the same batch-aware rules as the commit, with no second rule copy. PR fix(core)!: the import dry run previews create rows in the commit's batches (#26684) #26778 does that for every conflict inside one commit batch, which covers the card's reproduction. It also aligns the preview's admit step with the write's reference check. The straddle needs two same-parent conflicting rows on either side of a 200-row boundary. It is reachable, but no user has reported it. Declarative "at most one row per parent where X" (conditional unique) — summary-based guards miss rows in the same bulk insert #25477's own ruling C already accepts a named limit of this kind (「批量等于逐条,并发不保证」).
    • Not B. One validate() over a whole file (up to 50,000 rows for a job) turns the hop read into one $in over every parent and holds a job's counts until the end. That is a workaround whose cost grows with the file.
    • Not C, for now. A continuation key on ValidateDataRequest is the principled shape, but it is a new protocol key in packages/spec (the spec lane), and nothing asks for it yet. Under startup focus, the default is no new surface.
    • Condition. The limit must stay stated where an author reads the rule: content/docs/data-modeling/fields.mdx, and the changeset's "Not covered" line, as the PR has it. If a user reports the straddle, the follow-up is C, filed as a spec-lane card, not B.
    • The order's "agrees across the chunk boundary" pin is withdrawn. A pin that the limit exists, if the PR has one, is welcome.
