Adds verification_time and was_verification_successful to Minfraud::Components::Email. They describe the most recent verification of the email address. When validation is enabled, the result must be a boolean and the time an RFC 3339 date-time.

A second commit makes the phone and email verification specs share one example group.

The changelog bullet is in the unreleased v2.11.0 section, with the phone inputs.

🤖 Generated with Claude Code

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features

    • Email information can include whether address verification succeeded and when it occurred. Verification results are included in request data, with timestamps formatted as ISO 8601.
    • When input validation is enabled, verification status must be a boolean and verification times must use RFC 3339 format. The service may ignore times before 1970 or more than two days in the future, with a warning.
  • Documentation

    • Updated the request example and changelog to describe the email verification fields.

Validate hash_address before serialization.

With validation enabled, hash_address: 'false' passes validate because this method does not check @hash_address. to_json then treats the serialized string as truthy and hashes the address. Add validate_boolean('hash_address', @hash_address) to reject this input as the PR objective requires. Based on the PR objective, validation must reject a non-boolean hash_address.

About the outside-diff comment on lib/minfraud/components/email.rb:94 (validate hash_address as a boolean): we will not add this check in this PR. With validation on, it would raise for values such as 1 and 'true', which hash the address today. That is a breaking change for a minor release, so we removed the commit that added it.

🟡 Minor · Reject non-String verification_time values. · email.rb:95-96

lib/minfraud/components/email.rb:95-96
🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Reject non-String verification_time values.

validate_rfc3339 validates value.to_s, so :"2026-10-01T14:30:00Z" passes validation. The Email object still retains a Symbol, despite the documented String contract. Add an explicit String check before RFC 3339 validation. validate_string is not suitable because it also coerces values with to_s.

Suggested fix
         validate_email('email', @address)
         validate_string('domain', 255, @domain)
         validate_boolean('was_verification_successful', @was_verification_successful)
+        if @verification_time && !@verification_time.is_a?(String)
+ raise InvalidInputError, 'The verification_time value is not valid. It must be a String.'
+ end
         validate_rfc3339('verification_time', @verification_time)

About the outside-diff comment on lib/minfraud/components/email.rb lines 95-96 (reject a non-String verification_time): we will not change this in this PR. validate_rfc3339 is shared with phone_verification_time and the event time, and it handles all three the same way. A change to the accepted value types belongs in separate work that covers all of them.

Add the verification_time and was_verification_successful attributes to
Email. They describe the most recent verification of the email address.
With validation on, the result must be a boolean and the time must be an
RFC 3339 date-time.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The Email verification specs were copies of the phone specs in the
addressable shared examples, with only the phone_ prefix removed. Move
them into one shared example that takes the field prefix, and use it
for Billing, Shipping, and Email. The phone specs now also check a
non-boolean result and a boolean time. The phone specs still send
phone_verification_method with the other valid values, and a separate
spec checks that phone_verification_method is sent as a string.
