Document MSSQL_ACCEPT_EULA for the web-app-sql-database sample #37

Closed

Description

@pdebruin

Running samples/web-app-sql-database/dotnet/scripts/01-deploy-resources.sh failed at the SQL server step:

ERROR: (EulaNotAccepted) Please accept the MSSQL EULA by setting MSSQL_ACCEPT_EULA=Y in the environment

The README doesn't mention this yet. Exporting MSSQL_ACCEPT_EULA=Y in the shell doesn't help, since the variable needs to be set on the emulator container. With lstk, only host variables prefixed with LOCALSTACK_ are forwarded, so it needs an env profile in ~/.config/lstk/config.toml:

[[containers]]
type = "azure"
env = ["mssql"]

[env.mssql]
MSSQL_ACCEPT_EULA = "Y"

After restarting the emulator with this config, the script ran fine.

One thing worth pointing out alongside it: an emulator restart removes the AKS cluster (as documented in the LocalStack AKS limitations), so it's best to set this before running the 01-* cluster script.

Suggestion: add this to the prerequisites of the web-app-sql-database READMEs (dotnet and python), or to the main README's LocalStack start instructions.

    @pdebruin thanks a lot for the feedback! This behavior is intentional. We need to force the user to accept the MS SQL EULA, we can do it on her/his behalf. The documentation for the Azure SQL Database emulator has a note in the Getting Started section that specifies how to accept the EULA via the MSSQL_ACCEPT_EULA environment variable. I added the same note to the README files of the Web App with Azure SQL Database (Python, .NET) samples in this repo and the Web App with SQL Database (Python, .NET) on the App Service samples repo. See PRs #42 and #137.

    At this time, any emulated resource is removed intentionally when the emulator stops, AKS cluster included. The AWS emulator supports persistence across emulator sessions, the Azure emulator does not support this feature yet. We plan to implement persistence before GA. cc: @lazarkanelov, @mmaureenliu, @DrisDary, @bryansan-local
