Pin OpenTelemetry JS SDK 2.x in the manual - #1387
The manual installed OpenTelemetry packages without versions. Since SDK 3.x became latest on npm, following it produced a peer conflict with Fedify 2.x, which is built against SDK 2.x and @opentelemetry/api below 1.10.
This PR pins the install commands to the versions the workspace catalog already uses. It also installs @opentelemetry/api explicitly: both chapters import it, and Deno does not expose transitive npm packages to bare imports. The custom-provider and custom-exporter examples share one install group in docs/manual/opentelemetry.md, and docs/manual/debug.md points to it instead of carrying a second copy of the pins.
A short note explains the generation split and links #1345. --legacy-peer-deps appears only as a stopgap for projects that already resolved SDK 3.x.
No changelog fragment; this is a documentation-only change.
The manual's install commands had no version pins, so npm installed
OpenTelemetry JS SDK 3.x, whose packages require @opentelemetry/api
1.10 or later. Fedify 2.x is built against SDK 2.x, which needs the
API below 1.10, so readers hit a peer dependency conflict.
This commit includes the following changes:
- Pinned the SDK, exporter, tracing, and API packages to the 2.x
generation in the OpenTelemetry chapter.
- Added the API and tracing package group used by the custom-provider
and custom-exporter examples, and pointed the debugger's advanced
setup at those pins.
- Added a compatibility note explaining the generation split and
linking the SDK 3.x migration issue.

Walkthrough
The OpenTelemetry manual now pins package versions for Node.js, Bun, and Deno examples. It explains Fedify 2.x compatibility and directs the advanced debug setup to those pinned versions. The workspace catalog updates the SDK and exporter versions.

Layer / File(s)
Summary
Pinned setup commands and compatibility notes docs/manual/opentelemetry.md, docs/manual/debug.md, pnpm-workspace.yaml
The installation commands pin OpenTelemetry package versions for the documented examples. The compatibility note describes the SDK 2.x and SDK 3.x API version requirements and clarifies that --legacy-peer-deps does not make SDK 3.x compatible with Fedify 2.x. The debug guide lists required packages and refers to the pinned versions. The workspace catalog updates the SDK and exporter pins.
The manual now provides version-pinned OpenTelemetry setup guidance compatible with Fedify 2.x, with matching workspace versions and no known merge-blocking risk.

Explanation
The title names the main change: the manual's OpenTelemetry install commands now pin the JS SDK 2.x generation. The raw summary confirms version pins in opentelemetry.md, debug.md, and the workspace catalog, and the objectives describe the same change. The title is short, specific, and in the imperative style. It does not cover the explicit @opentelemetry/api install or the stopgap note, which is acceptable.
Full details: Description check
Explanation
The description states the problem: the manual installed OpenTelemetry packages without versions, and SDK 3.x now causes a peer conflict with Fedify 2.x. It names the changes: pinned install commands, an explicit @opentelemetry/api install, a shared install group in opentelemetry.md, a pointer from debug.md, and a note linking #1345. This matches the raw summary and the objectives, so the description is directly related to the changeset.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The changes remain within issue #1344. The documentation updates correct install commands and explain SDK 2.x compatibility. The pnpm-workspace.yaml version updates keep the workspace catalog aligned with the documented versions. No unrelated implementation or SDK 3.x migration is shown.

Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
Issue #1344 requires versioned manual OpenTelemetry install commands, explicit @opentelemetry/api, an SDK-generation note, a strict-peer install, and passing mise run docs:build and mise run check:md. The summary establishes the pinned commands, explicit API package, SDK 2.x compatibility note, and --legacy-peer-deps limitation. The workspace catalog uses the documented ^0.217.0 SDK Node and OTLP exporter versions. The summary reports no test results, so the strict-peer install and the two required checks are not established.
Resolution
Provide evidence that a strict-peer install of the documented package set succeeds in an empty project, and provide results for mise run docs:build and mise run check:md.

The documented sdk-node range included GHSA-q7rr-3cgh-j5r3, a crash in
the bundled Prometheus exporter that is fixed in 0.217.0. The manual
now installs ^0.217.0 for sdk-node and the OTLP exporter, and the
workspace catalog matches it so the docs build resolves the same
versions.
Its peer range still keeps @opentelemetry/api below 1.10, and its
tracing dependencies are 2.7.1, so this stays on the SDK 2.x line that
Fedify 2.x supports.
