Splite main.yaml to improve readability. It preserves all workflows order.
AI Usage
Codex:gpt-5.6-sol is used for planning and implementation. Under Human review, it checks order of execution. Workflows order checked by opening this PR.
The main workflow now delegates CI, release, publishing, and documentation tasks to reusable workflows. New workflows create and reuse release artifacts, publish packages and images, and build or deploy documentation. Supporting scripts, tests, and deployment documentation use updated workflow paths and release checks.
Changes: Workflow split and integration
Layer / File(s)
Summary
CI workflows and main workflow entry .github/workflows/check.yaml, .github/workflows/test.yaml, .github/workflows/version.yaml, .github/workflows/main.yaml
Reusable check and test workflows define CI jobs. The version workflow exposes release outputs. The main workflow calls these workflows and delegates artifact creation.
Release identity and artifact creation .github/workflows/artifacts.yaml, .github/workflows/main.yaml, scripts/release.mts, scripts/test-release.mts, mise.toml
The artifacts workflow creates or reuses package and platform image artifacts, then assembles an image index. Release checks now reject an existing image version tag, and the test fixture covers that check.
Reusable workflows push and attest images, publish packages, advance image channel tags, and create GitHub releases. Release metadata and tests distinguish the build workflow from the image-attestation signer workflow. The release guidance describes the publication order and recovery conditions.
The docs workflow builds and uploads documentation artifacts. Reusable workflows deploy current builds to release and canary documentation. Preview validation, its fixture, and deployment guidance use the docs workflow path.

Explanation
Docstring coverage is 14.29% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 7 functions across 5 files. (5 skipped: 5 unsupported.)
Resolution
Write docstrings for the functions missing them to satisfy the coverage threshold.

The split does not weaken the release gates. needs: test now waits for the whole test.yaml, so test-scripts and image-pr are included, and the artifacts → image → image-index chain inside artifacts.yaml plus the github-release → docs-release dependency are unchanged. Fork handling, secrets, permissions, and artifact reuse are the same as before. Every job in this PR's own CI runs passed: check, test, docs, and all four image-pr combinations.
Two things this PR carries over unchanged need a separate decision: npm publication, which cannot be undone, still runs before image publication, and the documentation build is not a gate for publication. Both are noted on the relevant lines.
The commit message needs a fix before merge. Assisted-by: Codex:gpt-5.6-sol is followed by body text, so git does not read it as a trailer (git interpret-trailers --parse prints nothing), and the provenance note is missing three of the four items AI_POLICY.md asks for: how the tool shaped the result, what the human decided, and how the result was verified.
CONTRIBUTING.md line 314 should gain a sentence. The publish step lives in publish.yaml, but npm checks the calling workflow, so the trusted publisher keeps main.yaml; renaming either file requires changing the npm setting at the same time. Without that note the next maintainer may “fix” the filename to publish.yaml and break publishing.
Separately, scripts/release.mts line 766 removes the staging dist-tags without the tagTarget(build) recheck that every other registry write performs. That predates this PR, so I am only mentioning it.
The CI runs on this PR did not exercise the main or tag release path. Merge, confirm the first dev build publishes, and only then push a release tag.
Separate CI, release, publishing, and documentation jobs by responsibility while keeping main.yaml as the release caller for npm trusted publishing.
AI provenance: The contributor asked Codex to plan and implement issue #170 while preserving OIDC permissions, artifact reuse, release ordering, concurrency, rerun safety, and documentation preview security.
Codex inspected the issue and connected code, proposed the reusable-workflow structure, generated the workflow and supporting script and documentation changes, and helped distinguish the release caller from the image-attestation signer.
The contributor decided to keep main.yaml as the npm trusted-publisher caller, omit a changelog entry because this is an internal chore, and retain the existing publication and documentation gate ordering.
The contributor reviewed the result and verified it with the pull request's check, test, docs, and four image-pr jobs, all of which passed.

I thinks it's clear that calling workflow is main.yaml, However, I agree with your opinion to prevent mistakes. I will fix it.
Push and attest the immutable GHCR image before npm publication, then move channel tags only after npm succeeds. Refuse artifact rebuilding when either the npm package version or the GHCR image version already exists.
AI provenance: The contributor asked Codex to implement the first PR review finding by moving immutable image publication ahead of irreversible npm publication while keeping channel tags after npm.
Codex traced the release and recovery workflows, split the reusable publishing workflow into image-push, publish, and image-tags jobs, added authenticated GHCR checks to artifact recovery, and added a fixture for existing image versions.
The contributor reviewed how the recovery changes followed from the review comment and decided to implement the complete ordering and fail-closed behavior.
The result was verified with mise run check, mise run check:release, mise run test:release-image, and git diff --check.

Replace four duplicated GHCR login steps with one local composite action while preserving each job’s package permissions and token scope.
AI provenance: The contributor asked Codex to implement the third unresolved review comment by consolidating the repeated GHCR login steps.
Codex inspected the existing local action pattern, extracted the login command behind an explicit token input, and updated all four callers without changing their permissions or ordering.
The contributor reviewed the factoring and confirmed that the responsibilities were separated correctly.
The result was verified with mise run check:workflows, mise run check, and git diff --check.
