Summary

Remove the overly broad Laravel headline so its commits can be classified under specific developments by the manual backfill.

Changes

  • Add a forward-only migration that resets headlines_classified_at for commits linked to the exact Laravel headline, then deletes that headline and its links through the existing foreign-key cascade.
  • Preserve specific headlines and their existing links. The normal backfill skips commits that retain another headline.
  • Add a regression test for Laravel-only, shared-headline, and unaffected commits, including repeated execution when the headline is absent.

After the migration runs, the backfill is performed manually with php artisan commits:link-headlines.

Validation

  • php artisan test --compact tests/Feature/LaravelHeadlineMigrationTest.php: passed, 1 test / 8 assertions.
  • vendor/bin/pint --dirty --format agent: passed.
  • composer test:lint: passed with existing unrelated frontend lint warnings.
  • composer test:types: passed.
  • composer test:type-coverage: passed, 100%.
  • bun run test:unit: passed, 225 tests.
  • php -d memory_limit=-1 vendor/bin/pest --parallel --ci --coverage --exactly=100.0 --passthru-php="'-d' 'memory_limit=-1'": passed, 5,550 tests / 30,129 assertions / 100% coverage.
  • git diff --cached --check: passed before commit.

Checks ran in an isolated orb against the local test database. Visual and device verification are inapplicable: no UI or interaction changes. Hosted CI is pending.

Independent review

Review covered the complete diff, cascade schema, backfill selection, correctness, regressions, architecture, and meaningful test coverage. Reviewer inspected the validation logs but did not rerun tests or execute against production. Visual review is inapplicable to this database-only change.

Limitations

No production migration or backfill has been run. This is a one-off cleanup, not a permanent ban on future headlines named Laravel. Commits retaining another specific headline remain linked and are skipped by the normal backfill.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Chores
    • Removed the Laravel headline from the available headline data. Commits previously associated with it now have their classification status reset; unrelated commit classifications remain unchanged.
    • Re-running the data update does not remove unrelated headlines or alter unrelated commit classifications.

Walkthrough

The migration removes the Laravel headline and its commit links. It resets classification timestamps for linked commits. A feature test checks removal, timestamp resets, preservation of unrelated records, and a second migration call.

Changes: Laravel Headline Removal

Layer / File(s) Summary
Remove headline and verify affected records
database/migrations/2026_11_03_150501_remove_laravel_headline.php, tests/Feature/LaravelHeadlineMigrationTest.php
The migration clears headlines_classified_at for commits linked to the Laravel headline, then deletes the headline. The test checks those changes, preserves unrelated records, and calls the migration twice.

Merge Risk: Minimal · up to 02827

The migration prepares affected commits for the planned backfill. No merge-blocking risk is established; run the backfill after migration.

Security architecture risk: Low · up to 02827

The cleanup targets one named headline and preserves unrelated associations. No new externally accessible capability or privilege expansion was identified. A bounded consistency risk remains if classification runs concurrently with the migration, and production migration and recovery controls were not available for verification.

Retained concerns

  • Low · reliability · inferred: If classification overlaps the migration, a writer can attach Laravel and set a commit's classification timestamp after the reset statement has selected affected commits but before deletion cascades through the new association. The commit can then retain a non-null timestamp without its headline and be skipped by the normal backfill. Repeating the cleanup after Laravel has been deleted cannot identify that missed commit. Existing classifier transactions and processing locks do not coordinate with this migration; whether production prevents overlap is unknown. This is a bounded recovery and failure-containment concern, not a verified security exploit.
Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The maximum intended data scope is the application-wide set of commits linked to the uniquely named Laravel headline, including shared commits whose other associations remain. There is no per-user or tenant filter in this cleanup; its bound is the headline identity and existing pivot relationships.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — The existing classifier rechecks commit approval, deletion state, parent status, body identity and prior classification under row locks before changing associations. The PR does not replace these checks; the migration directly resets eligibility state using its fixed database selector.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Coordinate the cleanup with headline writers, for example through a verified writer-quiescence procedure or the existing shared processing lock. Confirm the deployed migration transaction behavior and preserve a targeted recovery record before irreversible deletion if recovery is required.

Explanation

The title "fix: remove broad Laravel headline for backfill" matches the main change. The migration removes the Laravel headline and its links, and resets headlines_classified_at for affected commits so the backfill can reclassify them. The title is concise, specific, and follows a conventional commit style.
