Problem

Long link URLs exceed the browser’s practical request URL limit when looked up with GET.

Change

Uses a QUERY request for oversized lookups while keeping short links as shareable GET URLs.

Validation

The focused link controller tests passed (8 tests, 104 assertions). A live request to the supported public deployment path was rejected by Cloudflare with HTTP 400 before reaching Laravel, so compatibility through the deployed proxy is unverified. This remains a blocker; the PR is not ready until the request path is supported end to end.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Link searches with long URLs now work without exceeding browser URL limits.
    • Long-URL searches return matching link results as expected.
    • Top-link navigation also supports long destination URLs.

Walkthrough

The links page uses GET for lookup destinations up to 1,800 characters and QUERY for longer destinations. The links index route accepts both methods. A feature test covers an authenticated QUERY request with a 1,900-character URL.

Changes: Link lookup

Layer / File(s) Summary
QUERY route support
routes/web.php, tests/Feature/Controllers/LinkControllerTest.php
The links index route accepts QUERY requests. A feature test checks an authenticated request with a 1,900-character URL in the request body.
Long URL navigation
resources/js/pages/links/index.tsx
The page uses GET when the destination is at most 1,800 characters. For longer destinations, it uses QUERY with the URL as data and disables state preservation. Form submissions and top-link entries use this navigation configuration.

Merge Risk: Moderate · previous review 96e0c

Lookups for very long URLs are sent as QUERY requests. The author reports that the public deployment rejects these requests. If that holds, those lookups would fail in production, while shorter lookups on GET are unaffected. Verify that the public proxy forwards QUERY, or choose a different transport for oversized lookups, before merging.

Security architecture risk: Moderate · up to 96e0c

Oversized lookups now depend on an HTTP method that the reported public deployment rejects. Authentication, input validation, and viewer-specific commit filtering remain in place, but deployment compatibility and follow-up navigation behavior are unverified.

Retained concerns

  • Medium · architecture · observed: The client now requires QUERY for oversized lookups, but the PR reports that the supported public ingress rejects that method before Laravel. Application-side route acceptance therefore does not establish a deployable request contract. The rollout remains blocked until the public path supports the chosen transport end to end.
Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • observed — Authenticated callers gain an additional method for supplying lookup identity to the same application endpoint. Selected commit rows still pass through link-specific and viewer-specific filtering; the route change does not create a guest lookup route.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Attacker-controlled lookup data still crosses authentication, bounded string validation, URL normalization, and link selection before reaching the existing viewer-filtered commit query. These controls predate the PR and remain shared by GET and QUERY.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • inferred — The inspected lookup is read-only and derives its identity from each request, so repetition or interruption does not introduce a partially committed shared lookup transition. This contains server-side state risk, but does not establish correct client recovery or supported ingress behavior.

Explanation

The title names the main change: link lookups for oversized URLs now use the QUERY HTTP method. The changeset matches this. The route accepts QUERY, the controller path switches to router.query above 1,800 characters, and a feature test covers a 1,900-character URL in a QUERY body. The title does not mention the state-reset fix in the commit history, which is expected for a short title.

Full details: Docstring Coverage

Explanation

Docstring coverage is 0.00% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 3 functions across 3 files.

Resolution

Write docstrings for the functions missing them to satisfy the coverage threshold.

Use a method supported by the deployment path.

The PR reports that Cloudflare returned HTTP 400 for a live QUERY request before it reached Laravel. Oversized lookups therefore fail on the tested public path. Configure the proxy to accept QUERY, or use a supported method, and verify the request end to end.

Update the route declaration for LinkController::index so link lookups use an
HTTP method accepted by the deployed public path, or establish that the proxy
accepts QUERY before retaining it. Verify the lookup request end to end through
the deployment path.

Do not merge the QUERY lookup path until the public proxy accepts it.

For destinations over 1,800 characters, linkVisit returns a query visit. Line 70 sends that visit as a QUERY request with { url } in the body. Top-link clicks use the same visit result, so they take the same path.

The PR reports that Cloudflare rejects a live QUERY request with HTTP 400 before it reaches Laravel. If that result holds, every lookup over 1,800 characters fails on the supported deployment. The author also lists this as a blocker.

Confirm that the deployed proxy forwards authenticated QUERY requests with JSON bodies. If it does not, send oversized lookups through a transport that the deployment path accepts.

Review comment at @resources/js/pages/links/index.tsx at line 70:
Verify that the deployed proxy forwards authenticated QUERY requests with JSON
bodies before using router.query for visits returned by linkVisit. If it does
not, route oversized lookups through a transport the deployment supports while
preserving their lookup behavior.
