Summary

The sidebar can only be collapsed or expanded with the Collapse button. Now ⌘B (macOS) or Ctrl+B (elsewhere) toggles it too, like in most editors.

Changes

  • use-keyboard-shortcuts.ts: ⌘/Ctrl+B clicks the existing Collapse/Expand button. It goes through the same setNavOpen, cookie and animation as a click.
  • The shortcut does nothing while you're typing, while a dialog is open, when the key auto-repeats, or with Shift/Alt held. That leaves ⌘/Ctrl+Shift+B to the browser's bookmarks bar.
  • It only calls preventDefault() when it actually toggles. Below lg, where the button is hidden, the browser's own Ctrl+B (Firefox bookmarks sidebar) still works.
  • The other shortcuts behave as before. The single guard is split so ⌘B can sit between the dialog/typing check and the modifier check.
  • app-nav.tsx: the button gets aria-keyshortcuts="Control+B Meta+B" and shows the shortcut in its tooltip and title (⌘B or Ctrl+B).
  • The shortcuts dialog lists it under Anywhere, and KNOWLEDGE_BASE.md adds it to the shortcut table.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added the ⌘/Ctrl+B keyboard shortcut to collapse or expand the sidebar on wide screens. The shortcut is also shown in the sidebar controls and keyboard shortcuts dialog. It works when the sidebar toggle is visible and does not override browser behavior when the toggle is unavailable.
  • Documentation
    • Updated the keyboard shortcuts reference to include the sidebar toggle shortcut.

Walkthrough

The sidebar can now be collapsed or expanded with the platform modifier+B shortcut. The navigation button, shortcut dialog, and knowledge base display the shortcut.

The navigation button declares Control+B and Meta+B and displays the formatted shortcut label. The dialog and knowledge base list the shortcut.
Keyboard shortcut handling

The keydown handler handles unshifted, non-repeated Meta+B or Ctrl+B events. It clicks the navigation button only when visible and prevents the default only when the button is clicked.

Minor · Functional Correctness · Quick win

Qualify the Mod+B shortcuts entry as wide-screen only.

The entry appears under "Anywhere," where the dialog says the shortcuts "work anywhere except while you're typing." The sidebar button is hidden below the lg breakpoint. Below lg, Mod+B does not toggle the sidebar, and the event is not prevented. The browser's own Mod+B behavior can then run. Add the wide-screen qualifier to the label, as KNOWLEDGE_BASE.md already does.
