feat: notify the author when their commit wins a pastel - #1254
The pastel button stays silent for its recipient: as reported in #1123, you only find out you were awarded by re-reading your own commits. The first pastel on a commit now notifies its author once, whoever gives it, and repeats keep counting quietly on the commit and on the author's total.
New awarded notification, created inside the award, keyed awarded:commit so only a commit's first pastel notifies, whoever gives it.
It reads back like a star does: through the approved-commit relevance check and the inbox, with your own commit as the destination and excerpt, under the same cookie icon as the achievements.
Covered from the action up: repeat awards and a spent allowance stay quiet, blocks and mutes hide it, rejection hides it, deletion removes it, and the inbox renders it.
Touches the same union and enum lines as #1216; happy to rebase whichever way round is easier once one of them merges.
Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Commit authors receive an inbox notification for the first pastel awarded to each of their commits. Self-awards and additional pastéis on the same commit do not trigger another notification.
Pastel notifications link to the commit and show its content.
Updates
Pastel notifications are visible for approved commits and hidden for rejected commits.
Notifications are removed when the awarded commit is deleted.
The notifications description and empty-state message now include pastéis.

Walkthrough
Pastel awards now create a notification for the commit author on the first pastel for a commit. Self-awards do not create notifications. Awarded notifications are included in approved-commit filtering and rendered in the notification inbox with a commit link and pastel label.
The pastel action checks the commit’s pastel count and invokes the notification action for the first pastel. The action skips self-awards and inserts an awarded notification for the commit author, ignoring insertion conflicts. Tests cover repeated awards, multiple givers, and multiple commits. The knowledge base describes the notification behavior.
Filter and display awarded notifications app/Queries/NotificationBuilder.php, tests/Unit/Queries/NotificationBuilderTest.php, resources/js/types/notification.ts, resources/js/pages/notification/index.tsx, tests/Unit/NotificationInbox.test.tsx
Awarded notifications qualify through the approved-commit relevance branch. The inbox identifies the recipient’s commit, shows the pastel label and icon, and links to the commit. Tests cover relevance and inbox rendering.
dev-null-sh/dev-null.sh#1168: It filters notification groups by associated commit visibility, which can affect awarded notifications.

Merge Risk: Minimal · up to 219e1
Repeat awards remain silent, and no current merge-blocking risk is established.
Security architecture risk: Low · up to 219e1
The new notification stays within the existing award and inbox boundaries. The reviewed paths preserve eligibility checks, recipient ownership, blocking and muting, and first-award deduplication. No new security weakness was confirmed, although incomplete coverage prevents a definitive minimal-risk assessment.
Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.
Security review details
Security Blast Radius
inferred — The new reachable outcome is a persistent inbox notification for the author of an awarded commit. Its recipient is derived from the commit, not supplied independently by the caller. Triggering it inherits the existing award-mode, visibility, self-award and daily-allowance restrictions.
Security Findings and Attack Paths
inferred — No introduced authorization bypass or cross-recipient disclosure was established along the traced award-to-inbox path. Both production callers authorize the award, and inbox listing and group access constrain notifications to the current recipient and shared relevance rules. This conclusion is limited to the inspected repository paths.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
observed — Authorization remains at the web and API request boundaries rather than being repeated inside the award action. The API controller supplies the authenticated user and route-bound commit. Downstream recipient scoping and relevance checks mediate access before notification serialization.
Resilience and Maintainability Implications
observed — The new notification reuses existing controls for rejection, silencing and deletion instead of introducing a separate visibility policy. Commit deletion explicitly removes associated notification rows, and the existing foreign key also provides cleanup on physical deletion.
