Real builds. Real track days. Real data.

🏁 Welcome to Caterham7Diaries

Caterham7Diaries brings together the engineering projects behind Caterham 7 Diaries, an independent enthusiast website documenting Caterham Seven ownership, builds, upgrades and time on the road and track.

Alongside the stories and technical write-ups are the software and electronics projects: instrument displays, ECU and CAN-bus investigations, lap and session timing, GNSS, microcontrollers, connected sensors and 3D-printable hardware. This is the place for the code, wiring, prototypes and development notes behind those ideas.

Built for the Seven. Engineered for the drive.

🔧 What we're building

🏎️ Caterham & vehicle data ⏱️ Motorsport & GNSS 🛠️ Hardware & fabrication
Caterham ECU communication, CAN-bus captures, dashboards and vehicle telemetry Session countdown systems, standalone GPS timing, GNSS diagnostics and IMU integration Raspberry Pi / ESP32 / Pico projects, sensor dashboards, connected devices and OpenSCAD parts

🏎️ Featured motorsport projects

A standalone track-day timing and GNSS lap-time project with an AMOLED display, IMU data and session logging. Hardware testing is in progress.

Development GNSS

The original MicroPython-based track-session timer, designed around high-visibility countdowns and information you can read at a glance.

MicroPython

CAN-bus captures and protocol analysis tooling for understanding MBE ECU communications on Caterham Seven models.

CAN bus

An experimental Caterham dashboard for Raspberry Pi, visualising vehicle information received from the ECU over a network connection.

Raspberry Pi

🛰️ NEO-M9N CLI

Linux diagnostics for the u-blox NEO-M9N GNSS receiver, including live navigation data and connectivity troubleshooting.

Linux

🏎️ F1Dash

An earlier Raspberry Pi telemetry display experiment using the F1 2016 game’s UDP data stream. An archive-style project illustrating where the dashboard ideas began.

📓 The diaries

The Caterham 7 Diaries website tells the other half of the story: building and maintaining the car, making modifications, documenting lessons learned and enjoying the roads and circuits. You'll also find occasional writing about other enthusiast cars.
