- push the bump commit to the branch the workflow runs on rather than opening a pull request, the custodian app bypasses the required CI check, the bump job builds and tests the changes
- author and commit as the custodian app so GitHub signs the commit, crediting the user who triggered the workflow as a co-author
- check the version is valid semver without build metadata
- tag releases as v, then run the workflow again to bump to the next patch dev version, e.g. 0.1.0 is followed by 0.1.1-dev
- don't ignore bump-version/* branches in CI, they're no longer created
