Clarify shared CLI discovery and Antigravity sandbox recovery - #76
Sandbox discovery failures can make an installed CLI look missing, and agents can try sandboxed auth/review before requesting the required host execution. Clarify bounded metadata-only discovery, trusted canonical paths, and execution-context selection before auth/review. Confirmed missing installations receive the official user-run curl command, including the EU sign-in caveat. The canonical skill and native review agent use the same handoff.
Antigravity CLI recovery stays in a separate, conditionally loaded reference. It checks installed flag support, constrains path substitution, explains session permission changes, and keeps the review scope outside the fixed shell prompt. Its self-guard excludes desktop and host-native sessions. No manifests, versions, automatic installation, or MCP authentication changes.
Validation
Six cases passed at 0814a97 using an exact local PR snapshot through Antigravity's plugin loader: CLI 1.4.12, app 2.28.2, curl-installed CodeRabbit CLI 0.9.1, macOS arm64, Gemini 4 Argon Medium, default interactive permissions.

Missing/signed-out CLI workspaces had prior trust from preliminary runs; signed-in CLI includes first-time workspace trust. Each missing case also needed one user confirmation of absence. Both reviews emitted review_completed with outcome: completed; fixture diffs remained unchanged. No paid-credit continuation. App auth/review went directly through approved host execution, without failed sandbox probes.
The only later change, ca1c9e2, adds the four-line EU installer caveat. Focused final-head handoff tests passed in both surfaces: curl command, skip installer sign-in before region selection, and subsequent validated-path auth login --region eu; neither executed shell commands. The six-case results above are attributed to their tested commit, not presented as a full rerun after this caveat.
Fresh two-turn Opus 5.5 critique used a compressed diff brief and verbatim boundary paragraphs. After clarifying the existing action guard and session-policy disclosure, no change blocker remained beyond the negative reruns, which passed.
Earlier explicit sandbox testing verified the unchanged recovery command's executable access for version/help with normal host auth approval. That separate review hit a rate limit; it is not counted as a completed sandbox review.
Limits: local PR validation is not a marketplace release. Other hosts/platforms and additional stop conditions were statically reviewed, not all runtime-tested. Models sometimes read the CLI-only reference outside its intended context, but did not apply its settings. Manual install/login, duplicate-skill ambiguity and host approval prompts remain. --settings is supported by the tested binary's help but absent from the current public flag reference; the automated pre-merge check still objects to that documentation gap.
Shared routing stays focused; Antigravity details have a separate conditional reference.
Canonical and native review guidance align; packaging is unchanged.
Referenced paths, flags and permission syntax checked, with the public-documentation gap disclosed.
Runtime results identify the exact tested versions and commits.
No credentials, private links or operational telemetry included.
Summary by CodeRabbit
Documentation
Added guidance for recovering CodeRabbit CLI access in Antigravity terminal sandboxes, including when to stop and consult the instructions.
Clarified that failed lookups, inaccessible paths, or untrusted candidates do not confirm the CLI is missing; installation guidance is provided only after confirming absence.
Documented bounded CLI discovery, user-run installation instructions for macOS and Linux, and rediscovery and authentication checks after installation. Users in the EU are advised to select the regional login option when applicable.
Explained how execution context affects authentication and review commands, and that diagnostics remain sandboxed while host execution requires approval.
Clarified that users, not the review skill, run installation steps.
Chores
Updated the 1.2.0 changelog with the recovery guidance.
This documentation update clarifies CLI discovery, execution-context selection, and user-run installation when the user confirms the CLI is missing. It adds a separate Antigravity CLI sandbox recovery guide and links to it from the README.

Before / after behavior
observed — Modified behavior in CHANGELOG.md: Added a changelog entry describing the shared review guidance updates and the conditional isolation of Antigravity CLI sandbox recovery.
observed — Modified behavior in README.md: The Antigravity CLI documentation adds sandbox recovery guidance for sessions unable to find or execute the installed CLI, noting sandboxed diagnostics and per-command host approval for auth and review.
observed — Modified behavior in agents/code-reviewer.md: Replaces the package-manager or verified-binary installation preference with an instruction to use the official installation handoff in the procedure and not install the CLI from the agent.
observed — Modified behavior in skills/code-review/SKILL.md: The installation instruction replaces package-manager or verified-binary installation guidance and the warning against piping remote scripts to a shell with a direction to use the official authentication-and-recovery handoff; installation is user-run and must not be performed from the skill.

Full details: Description check
Explanation
The description follows the template's main sections (Summary, Affected surfaces, Public references, Validation, Checklist) and is substantive: it states the user outcome, the affected files and surfaces, cited references, and detailed validation with exact versions and commits. Gaps: the 'Affected surfaces' section is not labeled as such; it covers the skill, native agent, Antigravity reference, README and changelog in prose rather than as a list of canonical skills, commands, agents, manifests, docs, and distribution channels. The 'Validation' section lists exact commands and results and discloses unavailable checks (full end-to-end rerun after commit ca1c9e2, the public documentation gap for --settings), which meets the template. The checklist is filled in with a few boxes checked, but several template items (SKILL.md focus, scripts for repeatable operations, Agent Skills spec alignment) are not explicitly addressed. The description is mostly complete, so it passes.
Full details: Agent Guidance Structure
Explanation
The changed Antigravity recovery reference still uses an option that current public guidance does not document. The PR adds --settings to the agy --sandbox command and requires users to verify it in agy --help (skills/code-review/references/antigravity-sandbox.md:18-26). The current Antigravity CLI reference documents --prompt-interactive and --prompt, and documents sandbox configuration through settings.json and /config, but does not list --settings. The supplied CLI 1.4.12 built-in-help report does not resolve the requirement that commands and options agree with current public documentation. The README links users directly to this recovery command, so the mismatch is introduced by this PR.
Resolution
Replace the undocumented --settings override with the documented interactive /config or settings.json procedure. Keep --prompt-interactive only with the installed-help and public-documentation checks already required, or use -p/--prompt for a supported headless flow. Update the linked recovery wording and recheck the README and changelog references.

--prompt-interactive is documented at https://antigravity.google/docs/cli/reference/. Official Antigravity CLI 1.4.12’s built-in help also lists --settings as a session-only override; the public docs currently omit it. The recovery command was exercised with that binary, and the guide requires checking both flags and stopping if unavailable. Please reassess the unsupported-flags failure using this version-specific evidence.

Align the Quickstart with the authentication handoff.
The Quickstart says that the review command starts authentication. The shared procedure requires user-run login before review and requires any interactive login from a review command to be aborted. Users may therefore start a review expecting automatic login, but the documented workflow cannot continue until they authenticate separately.
