The session log is now the session. Every host has a log, and every part of a thread's state is a record in it. So any server can open a thread, run its waiting inputs, and pick up the work of a server that stopped. This is PR 5 of the harness redesign stack for #1755. It targets #1813 (feat/harness-lifecycle).

🎯 Changes

One persistence shape. memoryPersistence() has a log, and the harness needs stores.log. Message mode, recoverCrashedTurn, recoverInbox, findCrashedRuns, the session inbox, and tenantStores are gone. InboxStore, WorkClaimStore, and LeaseStore leave @tanstack/ai-persistence.
Thread state is log records.
- Settings, config, plugin state (as deltas), interrupted turns, named overrides, agent results, runs, interrupts, and schedules are records. Open folds them.
- harness:* and plugin:* metadata is gone. metadata is only for data wider than one thread, and it checks compare-and-set at the start.
Ownership.
- The first write takes the log with an epoch. One renew timer runs per host. When a host loses a log, its work on that log aborts. Readers never fail.
- ctx.context.run has epoch and idempotencyKey(step, scope?). LogOwnedElsewhereError is exported.
Inputs from any machine.
- Inputs go into the log's input lane, and the owner drains them. host.submit adds an input with no open session.
- resumePending and the new createHarnessWorker({ host, harnesses, concurrency, signal, pollMs }) take logs that nobody runs: expired, offered, or due to wake.
- session.schedule({ at, input }), session.cancelSchedule({ scheduleId }), and step.sleep({ name, ms }) in durable tools.
- A host that closes with recoverable: true while it has work leaves a wake, so a worker takes the log at once.
One log per session tree.
- Agent chains and subagents write to the root log, stamped with their thread.
- The logId option is gone. session.logState() replaces host.logState.
Snapshots in the log store.
- The owner writes a snapshot after log.snapshot.afterBytes (1 MB) or afterMs (5 minutes). A new host opens from the snapshot.
- lifecycle.retention.logRecords: 'since-snapshot' drops the records before it. A reader with an older cursor gets one harness.gap event, and the view reloads.

Docs: a new docs/harness/workers.md. durable-sessions.md and shared-logs.md are rewritten, and about 20 other harness and persistence pages are updated. Changesets are edited in place.

Decisions made while building:

step.sleep waits in the process. The host keeps the log while it waits. A host that stops leaves a wake, and a worker runs the step again at that time.
A child thread finds its root through the session index. So reading a child needs stores.sessions, which memoryPersistence() has.
harness.gap is a CUSTOM event, not a new frame. useChat, the client, and build.ts pass it through with no parser change. resumeAt is the cursor just before the first stored record, so a reconnect still gets that record.
Joining a turn on another server needs threadId in the URL, because ChatClient.joinRun sends only the run id. connect.md says so.
Snapshot version 5. The host never reads the old metadata checkpoint. The harness is not released yet, so there is no migration.
Answers and cancels from host.submit and session.schedule are checked when they are sent. The sending host reads the run from the log and passes it to authorize with the full principal. An input for a run that the log does not have gets unknown_run. A user can cancel only a schedule that the user made, when the policy checks run.principalId.
Every POST run stream has an id: line per event, because every host has a log. A client that splits SSE blocks must read the data: line of each block.

Commands run:

Builds of ai-persistence and ai-harness. test:types of ai-persistence, ai-harness, ai-mcp, ai-acp, ai-harness-cli, ai-code-mode, ai-skills, and ai-sandbox. All pass.
Each node ran its new tests and the test files that it changed, with --maxWorkers=2. Examples: fold-records, ownership, log-stores, input-lane, harness-worker, shared-log, agent-resume, snapshots, log, and the persistence memory and conformance tests. All pass.
test:oxlint of ai-harness, test:sherif, pnpm test:docs, kiira check on the changed docs pages, and oxfmt --check on the changed files.

Not run locally: the full suites, knip, E2E (including the new harness-worker.spec.ts), and coverage. CI runs them.

Manual test:

Run pnpm --dir packages/ai-harness exec vitest run tests/harness-worker.test.ts tests/input-lane.test.ts tests/snapshots.test.ts.
Read the deploy test in tests/harness-worker.test.ts: host A closes with recoverable: true during a turn, and a worker on host B finishes it.
Read tests/shared-log.test.ts: a subagent and an agent chain write only to the root log.

How this PR makes testing easy: the new test files pin each part: fold-records, ownership, log-stores, input-lane, harness-worker, and snapshots. testing/e2e/tests/harness-worker.spec.ts runs a submitted input and a schedule on a second host.

Risk / rollback

High. This changes how the harness stores and recovers every thread, and it removes three stores from @tanstack/ai-persistence. Neither the harness nor those stores are released yet, and all callers in this repo are moved. To undo, revert this PR.
