Filter captures and sessions by device type, site and date - #1561
Reviewers can now narrow the captures and sessions lists to one device type, one research site, or a range of dates, and show matching Device type and Site columns in both tables. The session detail screen also shows the station's device type and site. Dates are inclusive, use the station's local capture time, and match a session by the date it starts on.
List of Changes
Filter the captures list by device type, research site, start date and end date.
Filter the sessions list by the same four filters.
Turn on optional Device type and Site columns in the captures and sessions tables.
See the station's device type and research site on the session detail screen.
The captures filter panel lists capture set and processing status first, then station, device type, site and dates.
The device type and site filters offer what the project's stations use, including older shared records, on the captures, sessions, occurrences and taxa pages.
A single-day date range works, the calendar has room to open near the page bottom, and the device filter reads "Device type" everywhere.
Related Issues
Closes#1037 Closes#1063
Part of #1348 (date filters on the taxa view follow in a separate PR)
The taxon and taxa list filters from #1037 move to #1558.
The new devices/choices and sites/choices endpoints follow the capture set choices pattern: names only, project_id required, one capped response. Some older stations use a device or site with no project, so the choices match on the stations, not the owner.
Skim: NoObjectPermissionsMixin, which replaces five copies of the same override with no API change, the tests, and the UI wiring.

Result
Captures, one-week range, largest project (about 2 million captures)
17 ms, range inside the (project_id, timestamp) index
Same week with a ::date cast, as the occurrence filter does
214 ms, 620k rows removed by filter
Captures, range and device
135 ms
Sessions, one-month range, project with the most sessions (1,472)
under 1 ms
Query counts, with the query cache disabled:
The captures list, the sessions list and session detail make the same number of queries with or without a device and site. Tests pin this.
Without the joins, the captures list fixture went from 37 to 42 queries. Without the permission skip, session detail went from 33 to 43.
A filtered list makes two extra queries, constant with page size, to check that the device and site ids exist.
Found while measuring, not changed here: the captures list makes about 20 queries per row on main with with_detections and with_counts. #1430 tracks the per-row permission part.
Implementation notes
get_date_range_bounds() turns date_start / date_end into [start 00:00, (end + 1 day) 00:00). Comparing against datetimes keeps the timestamp indexes usable; the result matches a __date cast because USE_TZ is off.
DateRangeFilter.create("timestamp") configures captures and DateRangeFilter.create("start") configures sessions. It also describes date_start and date_end in the OpenAPI schema.
A filter with an error is left out of the request. The UI used to reject a single-day range and mark only the start date of a reversed range, so both sent the end date alone. One shared validator now accepts equal dates and marks both dates of a reversed range. This also affects occurrences.
…te range
Adds deployment__device and deployment__research_site to the captures
filterset, and date_start/date_end (both inclusive, in the station's local
capture time). The date range filters on a half-open timestamp range so the
(project, timestamp) index stays usable; a ::date cast would scan the
project's rows. The captures page shows the existing device, site, and date
filter controls, and the device filter uses the shared "Device type" label.

…ession detail
The session detail payload nests the station's device and research site
(id, name, details). Both come from joins on the session query, and the
nested references skip per-object permission lookups, so the detail view
makes the same number of queries as before.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_019pHEoH4mNxRsN6EsZhJG9y
…dd matching columns
The sessions list accepts deployment__device, deployment__research_site,
date_start and date_end. A session matches a date range when any part of it
falls inside the range, so a night that runs past midnight matches both of its
dates. Captures and sessions read the range through one helper,
get_date_range_bounds().
The captures and sessions tables get Device type and Site columns, hidden by
default. The list payloads nest the station's device and research site from
joins on the list queries, so the lists make the same number of queries with or
without them.

…p permission lookups
NoObjectPermissionsMixin returns an empty user_permissions list instead of
resolving permissions per object. The new device and site references and the
three existing copies of the same override (CaptureTaxonSerializer,
ClassificationNestedSerializer, JobChoiceSerializer) use it. No response
changes. See #1430 for removing the per-object cost everywhere.

…and document the date params
Review fixes:
- Sessions match a date range by the date they start on, so each night
belongs to one date and adjacent ranges never share a session.
- The UI no longer rejects a start date equal to the end date. A filter with
an error is left out of the request, so a single-day range used to become
"everything up to the end date". The API message now says "on or before".
- DateRangeFilterSerializer validates itself; FilterParamsSerializer had no
other users and is removed, so this branch does not depend on code that
#1555 deletes.
- DateRangeFilter describes date_start and date_end in the OpenAPI schema.
- The Site, Start date and End date filter labels use translated strings.

Summary
Shared date and serializer contracts ami/base/filters.py, ami/base/serializers.py
A shared serializer validates optional start and end dates. The date filter applies inclusive start and exclusive end datetime bounds. A shared mixin sets user_permissions to an empty list.
Nested deployment data adds device and research-site representations. Several serializers use the shared permissions mixin instead of local overrides.
API filters and validation ami/main/api/views.py, ami/main/tests.py
Event and source-image endpoints add device, research-site, and date filters and select related deployment records. Tests cover filter results, date boundaries, invalid inputs, and serialized relationships.
Interface filters and details ui/src/data-services/models/*, ui/src/pages/captures/*, ui/src/pages/sessions/*, ui/src/pages/session-details/*, ui/src/utils/*
Capture and session views add device, research-site, and date filters. List and detail views display device and research-site labels. Date validation allows equal start and end dates, and filter labels use translations.
Projects with more than 100 referenced devices or sites cannot select every filter value. This bounded limitation merits owner awareness but does not otherwise block merging.

Explanation
The PR meets the active coding requirements in #1037 and #1063. For #1037, the captures view adds Device type and Site filters, an optional column selector, and Device type and Site columns. The issue permits postponing Taxon and Taxa list filters, and the PR assigns them to #1558. For #1063, the captures and sessions views add start and end date filters. The backend uses inclusive date bounds, and tests cover matches, no matches, invalid input, equal dates, and session start-date matching.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The changes stay connected to the linked objectives. Session filters and columns implement the sessions part of #1063 and provide the same station metadata behavior as the captures view. Session detail fields, choice endpoints, shared date validation, permission-mixin refactoring, documentation, and query-count tests support the new filters and columns. The reviewed summary reports no model or migration changes.

A filter with an error is left out of the request. When only the start date
was marked invalid, a reversed range sent the end date alone and listed every
record up to it. One shared validator now marks both dates, so neither is sent.

Devices and sites belong to one project. Stations that use a record with no project, or
another project's record, are legacy data; a data fix gives those projects their own copies.
The filters keep listing the project's own devices and sites.
This reverts commit e68c149.

… through choices endpoints
The device type and site filters listed only records owned by the project, so stations using
a legacy device or site with no project, or another project's record, could not be filtered.
New devices/choices and sites/choices actions follow the capture set and job choices pattern:
they require project_id, return names only, and cap one response with ChoicesPagination.
The device and site list, detail and settings endpoints are unchanged.
