Navigating inside the site (e.g. /en → /en/team) runs @nuxt/content's database in the browser. The browser downloads /_nuxt/sqlite3.*.wasm (~865 KB) and /__nuxt_content/<collection>/sql_dump.txt instead of a _payload.json, because the payload is inlined and not extracted.
Nuxt 4.4 enables runtime payload extraction only for Nitro swr/cache route rules. The edge cache deliberately does not use those (#350, design D1 in the edge-caching-and-seo change): Nitro's cache would replay Set-Cookie and send s-maxage.
Worth evaluating: experimental.payloadExtraction combined with Workers Cache, and the effect on INP and mobile performance. This costs no Worker CPU today; it is download weight and client work.
