Summary

  • Help menu: the help button of the top bar now opens a small menu (HelpMenu.ts, yasgui.helpMenu.addItem/removeItem/setBadge). With one entry it runs it directly, without entries it hides. helpUrl: false now only leaves out the Documentation entry. The same commit is cherry-picked unchanged into feat(yasgui): "How MatGUI works" quick start tour #249 (quick start tour), so whichever merges second rebases cleanly on it.
  • What's new (whatsNew/WhatsNew.ts, whatsNew/releases.ts): every version from 5.0.0 to 6.12.0, newest first, each change tagged New / Improved / Fixed, a segmented filter, "New to you" on unseen releases, dates, and a link to the GitHub releases. Sources: the GitHub release notes and the changesets merged since v6.11.0.
  • Unseen marker: a dot on the help button and the menu entry until What's new is opened. First visits (no stored config) get no dot; existing users get it once after updating. Stored as whatsNewSeen in the persisted config.
  • Also in the Ctrl+K search ("What's new"). New config option showWhatsNew (default true).
  • Docs: user guide section "Help Menu and What's New", developer guide config + help menu API. Changeset: minor for yasgui.

Notes

Test plan

  • New puppeteer suite test/whats-new-browser.ts (no dot on first visit, dot after an update until opened, menu order, unseen marks, filter, Esc): 83 passing locally
  • npm run build
  • Checked light, dark and 390px wide screenshots

The help button opens a small menu with the documentation and any entries
added with yasgui.helpMenu.addItem() (quick start, what's new). With one
entry the button runs it directly, so the default stays one click.
Lists the changes of each version since 5.0.0 as New, Improved or Fixed,
with a filter per kind and a link to the GitHub release notes. A dot on
the help button marks a release the user hasn't opened yet (not on a
first visit); the newest seen version is persisted as whatsNewSeen. Also
in the Ctrl+K search, and showWhatsNew: false switches it off.
