What

Bumps every effect / @effect/* package from 4.0.4 to 4.0.5 and picks up two pieces of it.

  • Patches regenerated for effect, @effect/vitest and @effect/ai-openrouter. Only one hunk drifted: the LanguageModel deferred-decode helper, whose trailing context moved when upstream collected tool approvals once per request (#9143). It is re-anchored, applies at zero fuzz, and the patched files pass node --check.
  • WorkersAiDecisionModel: Decision.rate criteria are now { label, description } objects and instructions may be JSON (#9124). Score questions send each level's description and map score indices back by label, as the upstream OpenRouter decision model does. String criteria produce the same wire request as before.
  • CLI self-telemetry gzip: maple-cli traces and metrics use the new compression: "gzip" OTLP option (#9139). Both receivers it can target, the ingest gateway and the local maple start server, already gunzip.

Alchemy

Alchemy stays on 2.0.0-beta.83, still the latest release. Its next release splits providers into @alchemy.run/* packages, so that bump gets its own PR. The alchemy patch is unchanged.

Not taken here

  • UrlParams.CurrentRedactedNames (#9136) could replace the OAuth-callback tracing exclusion in apps/api/src/http/api-observability.ts, but its defaults don't cover code / state; a separate change.
  • Gzip in @maple-dev/effect-sdk exporters (customer-facing).

Verification

  • bun typecheck: 51/51
  • bun run lint: clean
  • apps/ai platform + chat run tests: 104 passed
  • apps/api worker + http tests: 27 passed
  • apps/cli core tests (bun test): 72 passed
  • One effect instance in the tree; only foldkit's vite plugin keeps its own pinned @effect/platform-node, as on main.

Maple review

🟢 Confidence 9/10 · safe to merge
Only gap is the untested Clef score mapping; the re-based effect patch, both gzip receivers and the single-effect-instance claim all check out.
1 note · tests partial −1 · risk medium

Bumps effect and @effect/* to 4.0.5: the effect patch is re-anchored, Clef score criteria map to descriptions, and the CLI's OTLP export is gzipped. Safe to merge. The open TracedFetchError in apps/cli/src/core/telemetry.ts is untouched — the diff adds only a compression option.

  • WorkersAiDecisionModel sends score-level descriptions and rebuilds probabilities by label
  • CLI OTLP trace and metric exports use compression: "gzip"
  • effect patch re-anchored onto 4.0.5's approval/decode changes
  • Every effect / @effect/* pin moves to 4.0.5

Findings

🔵 Note · F1 · Clef score-question mapping changed with no test covering it

tests · apps/ai/src/platform/WorkersAiDecisionModel.ts:98

Score questions now send level.description and rebuild probabilities from criteria[index].label, but Llm.test.ts:719 pins only the classify question's wire body, so a mis-indexed or mis-labelled score mapping passes CI. This path is the production triage severity gate (apps/ai/src/triage/incident-classifier.ts:42).

Add a `Decision.rate` case to the `layerDecisionModel — Clef on Workers AI` block: capture `captured.body.questions.<key>` and assert the criteria are the level descriptions, then feed a `score` answer back and assert `probabilities` is keyed by the level labels.

📝 Walkthrough

This PR updates Workers AI score decision mapping, enables gzip compression for CLI trace and metrics exporters, and moves Effect dependencies and patches to version 4.0.5.

Changes: Workers AI score decisions

Layer / File(s) Summary
Score question and response mapping
apps/ai/src/platform/WorkersAiDecisionModel.ts, apps/ai/src/platform/Llm.test.ts
Score criteria are sent as descriptions, and probability labels are read from each criterion’s label. The added test checks the request criteria and response mapping for rating, label, and probabilities.

CLI telemetry compression

Layer / File(s) Summary
Trace and metrics exporter configuration
apps/cli/src/core/telemetry.ts
Both exporters now request gzip compression. Their endpoints, resource, headers, and shutdown timeouts are unchanged.

Effect 4.0.5 update

Layer / File(s) Summary
Effect 4.0.5 packages and model-stream decoding
package.json, apps/web/package.json, packages/db/package.json, patches/effect@4.0.5.patch
Effect dependencies and overrides move to 4.0.5. Model-stream decoding defers a decode failure until the provider stream ends and can collect withheld parts when a span transformer is present.
HTTP handler and redacted registry initialization
patches/effect@4.0.5.patch
handlerToRoute constructs and caches its handler effect on the first request. The redacted registry uses a globalThis property keyed by Symbol.for.

Addressed F1 in ee8bc3b: Llm.test.ts now has a Decision.rate case in the Clef block. It asserts the score question's criteria are the level descriptions, and that a score answer's index-keyed probabilities come back keyed by level label (rating 2 → high). Mutation-checked: sending labels instead of descriptions fails it.

🟢 Confidence 10/10 · safe to merge
Both receivers of the new CLI gzip verified, and the score-criteria change is pinned by the new Clef test.
no findings · tests covered · risk medium

Bumps effect and @effect/* to 4.0.5, re-anchors the effect patch, adapts the Clef decision model to {label, description} rate criteria and gzips CLI self-telemetry. Safe to merge: both CLI receivers already gunzip. It does not touch the open maple-web/TracedFetchError on /api/sync/shape.

  • WorkersAiDecisionModel sends rate level descriptions and maps score indices back by label
  • CLI OTLP trace and metric exporters use compression: "gzip"
  • patches/effect@4.0.5.patch re-anchored around the renamed allResolved context

The Tests (@maple/backend-3-of-3) failure is pre-existing on main (since #1685), not from the effect bump: the GitHub admin-role connect cases call completeConnect without the initiator that #1675 made required. Fixed in #1699; the same commit is cherry-picked here (77f4e37) so this PR's CI can run green, and drops out on rebase once #1699 merges.

Checked it and you're right — and the failure is older than the bump on both counts.

  • git log --oneline -3 77f4e378b shows it as a child of ee8bc3b on origin/chore/effect-4.0.5, so the reviewed head (and the Tests (@maple/backend-3-of-3) failure on it) predates the fix; the branch tip now carries it.

  • The stale call is in packages/backend/src/services/integrations/vcs/vendor/github/__tests__/GithubConnectService.test.ts:282 at main (23c97eaae), inside the admin-role table cases:

    const exit = yield* svc.completeConnect("42", state, TEST_CODE).pipe(Effect.exit)

But GithubConnectService.ts:280 takes initiator: OAuthFlowInitiator as a required fourth argument, and makeOAuthStateConsumer reads it unguarded (oauth-state.ts:33: orgId: initiator.orgId), so the missing argument defects in Effect.exit rather than returning IntegrationsValidationError. git log on that file shows 4f1c3a995 (fix(integrations): bind OAuth and app-install returns to the signed-in initiator #1675) introduced the requirement and 85326f25d (fix(integrations): require account admin for GitHub installs, explicit callback origins #1685) added the admin-role cases without it — so it is pre-existing on main, unrelated to effect 4.0.5.

  • git show 77f4e378b touches only that one test line, nothing in the dependency bump, and it will vanish on rebase once test(integrations): pass the initiator in the GitHub admin-role connect cases #1699 lands.

No finding from me on this; the PR's own diff is unchanged by it.

Regenerates the effect, @effect/vitest and @effect/ai-openrouter patches;
the LanguageModel deferred-decode hunk is re-anchored after upstream's
single approval collection (#9143).

Adapts the Workers AI decision model to Decision.rate's { label, description }
criteria (#9124), and gzips the CLI's own OTLP exports (#9139); ingest and
the local server both gunzip.
Rate levels go out as their descriptions and the score answer's
index-keyed probabilities come back keyed by level label.

🟢 Confidence 10/10 · safe to merge
Both wire changes are pinned: the new score-mapping test plus the existing triage tests, and gzip verified against both receivers' gunzip paths.
no findings · tests covered · risk medium

Bumps effect/@effect/* to 4.0.5, renames the three bun patches to match, maps Clef score levels to label/description, and turns on gzip for the CLI's OTLP exporters. Safe to merge; the open TracedFetchError issue is untouched by it.

  • WorkersAiDecisionModel sends Decision.rate level descriptions and keys score probabilities by label
  • maple-cli OTLP traces and metrics export with compression: "gzip"
  • bun patchedDependencies and patch filenames move to 4.0.5
  • LanguageModel deferred-decode patch re-anchored to 4.0.5 offsets

  • patchedDependencies keys match the renamed patch files (package.json:145-147), and all three patches differ from base only by hunk offsets
  • The score label destructure is exercised by existing triage tests asserting severity low/critical from string SEVERITY_SCALE criteria
