Dense colored terminal output made typing and Chill-mode scrolling lag. Keep one WebGL renderer across Focus and Chill, preserving translucent backgrounds and opaque text, selection and cursor, with a DOM fallback when GPU initialization or context recovery fails. Bound large output writes, coalesce cumulative acknowledgements and drain host queues in linear time.
Prepare terminal-host 0.4.4 with the matching installer, release contract, changelog and workflow. Extension 0.4.2, DSH 0.4.0 and connector protocol 1 retain their versions.
Validation:
pnpm install --frozen-lockfileandpnpm release:auditpassed: 441 tests, 2 optional skips, all browser builds, Safari native validation, reproducible archives, isolated production install, Claude/Pi integration checks and real shell I/O. Chrome 156 at 140×48 and 4× CPU throttling measured Focus/Chill typing p95 of 4/3 ms, and continuous-output Chill wheel/drag p95 of 61/49 ms, with 17 ms frame p95 and zero long tasks. GPU/DOM pixel comparison, context restoration/fallback, copy gestures and real extension/PTY keyboard mode transitions passed. The compatibility bridge uses pinned xterm 5.5.0 / WebGL addon 0.18.0 internals; upgrades require the included pixel and regression checks. GPU-disabled environments retain the slower DOM fallback. Existing installed services and live terminal sessions were preserved. See
docs/verification/terminal-performance-2026-11-05.mdfor verification details.
