Description
On Linux (Wayland), screen recording encounters three significant limitations when capturing windows and managing projects:
- Aspect Ratio Distortion: Capturing non-16:9 windows (e.g. mobile emulators in 9:16 portrait orientation) forces the stream into monitor bounds, stretching the window horizontally instead of preserving its native dimensions.
- Missing Cursor & Click Telemetry: On Wayland, cursor capture stubbed out with empty events (
moves: vec![], clicks: vec![]), completely disabling Cap's zoom/click wave features.
- Project Import Failure: XDG Desktop Portal FileChooser does not recognize
.cap directory bundles as selectable files, entering the folder rather than importing the project.
Reproduction
- Run Cap on Linux under a Wayland session (tested on KDE Plasma 6).
- Start a Window recording and select any non-16:9 window (e.g. Android Emulator / narrow browser window).
- Notice that the resulting recording is stretched to 16:9.
- Notice that mouse movements and click ripples are missing from the preview.
- In Editor, try to "Add Clip" and pick a
.cap recording folder - portal file picker navigates inside instead of selecting the project.
Additional Context
- Cap version: 0.6+
- Operating system, version: EndeavourOS / Arch Linux, KDE Plasma 6 (KWin Wayland)
