Description

Fixes #69. Native start_server() now consumes the lazy process stream and requires a process acknowledgement before reporting startup, including wait=False. A failed launch no longer appears healthy while no server listens. The standard sync/async public contract is unchanged.

Type of Change

  • Bug fix
  • Documentation
  • Tests

Changes

  • Drain the background stream without retaining its output, bound acknowledgement by startup timeout, check early exits, and release readers on close/kill. Closing the creator retains the remote server.
  • Add actual StreamReader regressions and bilingual startup guidance with an explicit module command for environments without the console entry point on PATH.
  • Pin paired fresh-install recipes to the exercised immutable implementation; fix canonical site and package README guide links.

Testing

  • Focused helper regressions:16 pass; prior implementation fails lazy-dispatch regression.
  • Ruff/format and client/server mypy pass; package builds and twine checks pass.
  • Fresh installed wheels and public paired source archive:imports/all extras/pip check pass.
  • Local real Express acceptance:wheel command/files, installed npm and SEA exec, named server call, reconnect after creator close all pass; owned-resource readback zero.
  • Latest-head hosted CI and merge review

Full local client checkpoint:2186 passed/24 skipped/10 integration deselected; final changed helpers16 pass. Unchanged server full checkpoint:852 passed/3 failed/1 skipped. One failure was a pip-free audit venv and passes after pip installation; two raw protocol tests receive proxy502 locally. Their assertions are retained and full hosted Python3.10–3.12 matrices must pass before merge.

Checklist

  • Scoped code, meaningful tests and both language guides updated
  • Versions remain paired at0.3.0; no npm/PyPI publication or release tag
  • No credentials, raw process output or private resource identifiers in records

Definition of Done

  • Engineering note and detailed verification in .agents/notes/implemented/feature/2026-10-19-server-start-acknowledgement.md and .agents/evidence/verify/2026-10-19-server-start-acknowledgement.md
  • CHANGELOG and bilingual docs updated
  • Repository health106 PASS/1 WARN/0 FAIL; hygiene passes
  • Complete hosted matrix before marking ready and merging

Cloud/model acceptance ran locally only. No cloud/model Actions or credential upload. Native module command requires the runtime/commands file to be installed in the sandbox; this PR does not certify all experimental templates.

Public entry-point follow-up: corrected stale native SDK usage install steps (both languages), community source snippets, SECURITY distribution names and CLI owner labels. Historical comparison tables now clearly route readers to current guides; no live discussion message posted. Health106 PASS/1 WARN/0 FAIL and hygiene PASS after these edits.
