回答 #10:能跑多少个

报告全文和限制见 docs/reports/scale-bench.md。

Closes #10

…s they finish

- script/bench/scale.ts: mock-agent benchmark over the real UnifiedScheduler (tasks, concurrency,
overlap none|same-line, simulated agent time); SchedulerConfig.unitFactory is the injection
point; the report now carries execMs / mergeMs / cleanupMs
- docs/reports/scale-bench.md: results for 50/200/1000 tasks and the bottlenecks found
- scheduler: remove each task's worktree right after the task finishes (branch and commit stay),
instead of keeping every worktree alive until the end. 1000 tasks: cleanup 352 s -> 25 s,
  total 1206 s -> 462 s
- README / CLAUDE.md: scale statement now cites measured numbers and what is not measured

📝 Summary

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Documentation
    • Updated the scale benchmark results to report that 1,000 independent tasks with mock agents completed in 7.7 minutes on one machine.
    • Added a benchmark report with setup, results, and limitations. Real-agent memory use, rate limits, costs, and large repositories were not measured.
  • New Features
    • Added a scale benchmark that reports execution, merging, cleanup, throughput, memory, and leftover-resource metrics.

The scheduler now supports custom work units, immediate worktree removal after task execution, and phase-duration reporting. A mock-agent benchmark script measures execution, merging, cleanup, memory, and leftover resources. The benchmark report and project overview documents state results and measurement limits.

Full details: Title check

Explanation

The title names the two main changes: a scale benchmark script and report (for issue #10), and releasing each worktree as soon as its task finishes. It matches the changeset and the PR objectives. It is written in Chinese, which is acceptable for this project. It is a single line of 40 characters, so it is concise.

Full details: Description check

Explanation

The description explains the purpose of the change. It links the work to issue #10 and gives the benchmark results: 1000 non-overlapping tasks, serialized worktree creation and merging, and the same-line conflict case. It also explains the early worktree release and its effect on cleanup time, and lists the unmeasured limits. These points match the file summaries and the PR objectives.

Full details: Linked Issues check

Explanation

Issue #10 (direct, open) has four coding and report acceptance items. (1) Mock-agent script: script/bench/scale.ts runs UnifiedScheduler with a bash mock agent (no model calls). The report records runs at 50, 200 and 1000 tasks. (2) Task sets: --overlap none (each task writes its own file) and same-line (all tasks rewrite shared.txt). Both are implemented, and the report includes both. (3) Output: the JSON has totalMs, executed/executionFailed, merged, conflicts, tasksPerMinute, execMs, mergeMs, cleanupMs and schedulerMaxRssMB. Merge success rate, conflict rate and per-task time are not emitted as named fields. They follow from merged, conflicts, executed and execMs divided by n. (4) Report and README: docs/reports/scale-bench.md holds the results tables and findings. The README scale note links that report. Bottlenecks are named in the report's Findings (worktree creation mutex, serial merge, cleanup cost, scheduler memory, overlap waste). They are not labelled per tier row. Non-coding items (manual runs, token flow control, budget cap) are outside this PR, as the issue states. The report states the ladder and overlap coverage. Unmeasured areas (above 16 concurrency, agent memory, rate limits, cost, large repositories) are disclosed, and the issue does not require them.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

All changed areas connect to #10. scripts/bench/scale.ts and docs/reports/scale-bench.md are the requested benchmark and report. README.md and CLAUDE.md update the scale statement that #10 asks to cite the report. scheduler.ts adds unitFactory so the benchmark can inject the mock agent. It also adds execMs, mergeMs and cleanupMs timing for the bottleneck breakdown. The early worktree removal in scheduler.ts (removeWorktree after each task, with branches kept) is a production behavior change. It is not a measurement-only change. The report ties it to a measured bottleneck (cleanup 352 s to 25 s at 1000 tasks), and the scale issue asks for bottleneck identification. The change does not match an unrelated area, so it is not out of scope. Limits: worktree.ts was assessed from the change summary and its call site in scheduler.ts, not from a separate file read. The early removal still leaves the final cleanup loop in place, which is the expected behavior.

A rabbit timed the tasks in rows,
While mock agents hopped to files they chose.
The worktrees cleared as each task ran,
Merge times joined the final plan.
“One thousand measured,” the rabbit said,
Then tucked the report beside its bed.

Skip the final worktree removal after a successful immediate removal.

The cleanup loop runs git worktree remove --force for every execution result. Each task already removes its worktree at scheduler.ts:140, so the cleanup call repeats that work. For each task whose immediate removal succeeds, the run starts one more synchronous Git process. Branch deletion stays in the cleanup loop and still runs only for successfully merged tasks.

removeWorktree returns void and ignores the Git exit code. Make it return whether removal succeeded. Then skip the final removal only for worktrees that were removed. Keep the final attempt for any task whose immediate removal failed.

## Answer to "how many agents can it run"

On this machine, with a small repository and mock agents, the orchestration layer ran **1000 independent tasks to completion with no failures** in 7.7 minutes, and would not be the bottleneck for up to roughly **200 simultaneous real agents** (limits 1 and 2 above). It was never tested with more than 16 concurrent agents, and the default is 5 (`maxParallelWorktrees`).

Present 200 concurrent agents as an estimate, not a demonstrated limit.

The runs reached 16 concurrent mock agents, not 200. The 200-agent estimate uses the measured worktree-creation rate but does not account for removal using the same mutex. State that this is an unverified capacity estimate, and align the scale statement in README.md Line 9.

Check whether Git removed the worktree.

gitExec returns a nonzero exit code when removal fails, but removeWorktree ignores it. If a checkout cannot be removed, the scheduler starts further tasks as though its checkout were gone. Persistent failures can leave worktrees behind and defeat the concurrency-bound cleanup. Check the exit code and surface unexpected failures; handle only a confirmed already-removed path as benign. Based on learnings: “In TypeScript/JavaScript code that shells out to git, don't blanket-swallow errors.”

Emit task execution durations.

msPerMerge measures merging, not the required per-task execution time. The JSON contains only aggregate execution time, so it cannot show task latency or its variation. Record task durations from execution results and include them in the benchmark output.
