Cooling in 2D

Hello all,

So I have a 2D numerical model of rifting and now i wanted to impose cooling period for another 20 myrs, so I set the velocity boundary conditions to zero and restart the model however the model progress very slow (dt=2k, took 1 day to only run for 1 myr) yet it converges and progress. my model domain is 500kmx200km with resolution elements 1000x400.
I am using mg solver, is there another more efficient way to initiate cooling?
