I just tested IMAP login with NC 31.0.14 using user_external 4.0.0-RC1 and I can login and I see no problems so far.

Hey there, I've just upgraded to NC 33.0.1 and installed user_external 4.0.0-RC1 as well.
Login via IMAP works fine and there are no issues so far.

@BoSi42 switch your updater channel in the admin setting to beta, than apps on pre-release status will pop up in the apps section as updates. However this might take ~1h due to caching of the app store data.

@BoSi42 , I downloaded 4.0.0-rc here from GitHub (select repo tag then download zip).
Disable the old App in Nextcloud.
Unzip, set correct user/group on files and folders for your webserver, delete old app folder user_external and replace with new (make sure the name of the folder is correct).
Then enable the App again (via occ).
It is a bit more work, but it works.

An occ upgrade was triggered and gave an error:

"\OC\Updater::failure: OCP\App\AppPathNotFoundException: Could not find path for user_external_"

but things seem to work, I could login and so far no more of these many errors I had seen before.

I hope it stays this way.

Did you rename the old folder "user_extternal_".
I found that having an unknown app folder (which this is with a trailing underscore is) triggers errors. Just delete or tar the old folder or move it elsewhere.

Tested the IMAP connection with NC 32.0.6 and 33.0.0, both work fine.
