I've been using Monkeytype since around 2021, although I only recently created an account to start tracking my progress more seriously.
First of all, thank you for creating such an amazing project. Monkeytype has become much more than a typing test—it's one of the best tools for measuring typing performance and progress.
One thing I've been thinking about recently is how Monkeytype already collects an incredible amount of typing data, yet most of that information is presented only as numbers and graphs.
With modern language models becoming increasingly capable of analyzing patterns and providing personalized feedback, I think there's an opportunity to transform those statistics into something much more actionable—not by changing Monkeytype's minimalist experience, but by helping users better understand their own typing habits.
💡 Feature Proposal
Personalized Typing Insights & Practice Recommendations
Instead of only showing results like:
Monkeytype could optionally generate a short, human-readable summary after each test that explains what happened, why it happened, and how the user could improve.
Mockup
This mockup is only intended to illustrate the idea, not the final UI.
Example Insights
Speed Analysis
Consistency
Accuracy
Fatigue Detection
Pattern Recognition
Examples:
Keyboard Habits
Progress Summary
Personalized Practice
Instead of generating completely random words, Monkeytype could optionally create practice sessions based on each user's weaknesses.
Example:
Today's Recommended Practice
These recommendations would be generated from the user's own typing history.
Weekly Insights
Imagine receiving a short summary every week.
Weekly Report
Biggest improvement:
✅ Longer words
Needs attention:
⚠ Shift timing
Suggested focus next week:
Practice words containing "tion" and repeated letters.
Why I think this would fit Monkeytype
Monkeytype already excels at collecting detailed typing statistics.
This proposal isn't about replacing those statistics or cluttering the interface with unnecessary AI features.
Instead, it would act as an optional layer that translates raw numbers into personalized coaching and practical recommendations.
The goal isn't simply to tell users how fast they typed.
The goal is to help them understand:
In other words, transforming Monkeytype from a typing test into a lightweight personal typing coach.
I understand this would be a significant feature and may involve technical considerations or additional infrastructure.
I'm mainly sharing the concept because I think it aligns well with Monkeytype's existing focus on detailed statistics and continuous improvement.
I'd love to hear what the community thinks and whether something like this could fit within Monkeytype's long-term vision.
Thanks again for building such an incredible project. ❤️
