Description
What Happened?
Network settings is a total mess. If you have a built-in Wifi adapter and a USB Wifi adapter because your built-in doesn't work as expected, you'll end-up with a configuration nightmare mess trying to disable the built-in Wifi adapter and only enable the USB Wifi adapter. Disabling the built-in turns off both using the GUI settings. Rebooting causes the built-in to be enabled first. One has to manually disable the built-in via CLI - sudo ip link set wlp7s0 down - then edit your connections (GUI) and change the device to the USB Wifi device.
Hovering your mouse over the Wifi icon on the system status bar (right side) shows you're connected to "(null)".
Steps to Reproduce
- click System Settings
- select Network
- select the built-in adapter and toggle the switch to off at top of window
- now both adapters are disabled
- select the USB adapter and toggle the switch to on at top of window
- now both adapters are enabled and the built-in connects to the Wifi network
- open Terminal and issue
- sudo ip link set your_wifi_adapter down
- go back to System Settings - Network window and the built-in should be disconnected
Expected Behavior
-each adapter should have its own dedicated toggle switch - on/off
-connection(s) configuration settings should be listed to each associated adapter
-the status bar should show the network connected to (not "null")
- this is important when testing with multiple Wifi networks
