The GH runner for Mac aarch64 has been changed to a new version using macOS 15.7.7. The tests pass when I run them locally on macOS 15.7.7 (note - set local display to 100% scale) so it's not the macOS version that's the problem but something to do with the runner environment. My theory is it's something to do with the runner's virtual display or configuration as the test failures are to do with Shell focus and getting the active Shell.

As said on the GEF issue, this is likely the same problem as reported here: actions/runner-images#14161

Now an additional prompt in shown on the runner, which steals the UI focus.

From June onwards macos-latest will use macOS 26 instead of macOS 15 - see macos-latest. Perhaps something to be aware of in case assumptions are made about Mac UI controls as they are different on macOS 26.

They've deployed an updated and fixed macOS runner image - 20260527.0100.1. All tests should pass with this one.

Note - the deployment is ongoing so a run might get allocated the old runner image. If so, ignore it or run it again.
