Adaptive / auto brightness not working

Bug description

If you cover the upper part of the notification where the light sensor is in place, screen will automatically dim but if you remove the cover, it's stay on the same brightness and not coming back to normal brightness

Steps to reproduce

I try to enable and disable the adaptive brightness setting but it's not working

Relevant log (logcat/build log)

I don't know where to get this log.sorry
