This issue is for keeping track of remaining issues/PRs that can be included in the 2.3.0 release of bdk_wallet. The date of the release is still TBD.

Summary

This minor release of BDK Wallet v2.3.0 includes a new feature for returning events upon applying block to the Wallet. It also fixes a TxBuilder::build_fee_bump error when a parent of the transaction being fee-bumped isn't found in the wallet.

Checklist

Release numbering must follow Semantic Versioning. These steps assume the current release/2.x branch version is 2.2.0.

On the day of the release

1. Tag and publish new release:

• Create and merge a PR to bump the release/2.x branch to 2.3.0 version.

  • Change the Cargo.toml version value to 2.3.0.
  • The commit message should be "Bump version to 2.3.0".

• Add a tag to the HEAD commit in the release/2.x branch.

  • The tag name should be wallet-2.3.0
  • The first line of the tag message should be "Release wallet-2.3.0".
  • In the body of the tag message put a copy of the Changelog for the release.
  • Make sure the tag is signed, for extra safety use the explicit --sign flag.
  • git tag wallet-2.3.0 --sign -e

• Wait for the CI to finish one last time.

• Push the new tag to the bitcoindevkit/bdk repo.

• Publish all the updated crates to crates.io.

• Create the release on GitHub.

  • Go to "tags", click on the dots on the right and select "Create Release".
  • Set the title to Release 2.3.0.
  • In the release notes body put the Summary and Changelog.
  • Use the "+ Auto-generate release notes" button to add details from included PRs.

• Make sure the new release shows up on crates.io and that the docs are built correctly on docs.rs.

• Add release notes page to "Book of BDK"

  • Create and merge PR on https://github.com/bitcoindevkit/book-of-bdk
  • Verify https://bookofbdk.com/release-guide/2.3/notes/

• Announce the release, using the Summary, on Discord, Twitter and Mastodon.

• Celebrate 🎉

• The next PR on the release/2.x branch must bump the version to 2.4.0-alpha.0.

  • Change the Cargo.toml version value to 2.4.0-alpha.0.
  • The commit message should be "Bump version to 2.4.0-alpha.0".
