I've found that when the game spawns in the first cables during a match, the game freezes; frame rate drops to 0 and nothing is responsive, usually for 10 seconds. Cursor animations remain, and the music will play. Everything else is frozen.
I am running the game via Steam, I assume it is version 1.14.5.4 [though admittedly I am struggling to find where that information is in-game]
my OS is Linux Mint 21.1 x86_64
CPU is AMD 100 100000031SBX Ryzen 5 3600 (12 threads 6 cores)
GPU is ASRock Challenger Radeon RX 6400 4GB GDDR6 PCI Express 4.0 ITX Graphics Card RX6400 CLI 4G
This happens only once per match. It happens regardless of other graphical settings (max or min, changes nothing, not even the duration of the freeze)
I have restarted Zero-K, and steam, and my computer. The freeze persists.
This happens in single player and multiplayer games.
I have never seen it not happen; the first cables to appear in a match always freeze my game. No further cable spawning does this.
I can play around with other game elements (build factories, units, energy buildings as long as they don't connect) for as long as I want, longest tested was around 11 minutes. The freeze happens only once when the first cables appear no matter how long that takes.
Solution
I have found the only thing that prevents the freeze from happening is disabling cables. For those who might have the same issue as me: I don't think there's a setting found at the title screen's Settings page. Instead, you have to open the in-game menu during a match, navigate to settings → graphics → Energy Grid Cables. There you can disable the cables entirely. (Or just open the menu and click the search button, type cable, should bring you to it)
In my case, cables need to be totally disabled; the freeze happens just the same whether they are set to Full or Static.
I hope this report is useful to the devs; I could get more information if wanted, let me know please (screen recording, additional computer specs, try game v1.14.5.3, et c.)
