Maintain our own email/membership lists.
This would allow us to:
- send automated information about events,
- send better-formatted HTML emails (Meetup.com email support is pretty terrible),
- send more targeted emails
- allow us to know exactly who is receiving emails (many Meetup.com members have emails turned off)
There are unanswered questions:
- would mailing lists exist at a Queer Code level or at local group level? I.e. - who owns the data?
- how are we affected by legal issues e.g. GDPR? If we use a service like Mailchimp are we protected/shielded in some ways but not others? E.g. what if someone who access decides to export and share data?
