HiveInvalidDeviceAuthentication after recent backend change (worked until yesterday)

Hi,

My Hive integration was working normally until yesterday.

After that, login succeeds (didn't ask for 2FA) but integration fails with:

HiveInvalidDeviceAuthentication

Stack trace points to:

deviceLogin()

hiveRefreshTokens()

startSession()

Environment:

Home Assistant Green

HA Core 2026.2.2

Python 3.13

No subscription

2FA enabled

Rollback to previous HA version did not fix the issue.

All devices and schedules work correctly in the Hive app.

It appears that Hive may have changed device authentication handling.

Is this related to recent backend updates?

Same here - core HA Hive and HACS Custom exact same behaviour. Oddly, Hive app not asking for 2FA upon remove trusted, logout, then login. Posssibly something on their side?

Yeah exactly the same here, it's not sending or asking for the 2FA code.

I am having the same issue except I am a new user and have never used it before. Login accepted but never been asked for 2FA, here are my logs:

I thought that was really strange I got in touch with Hive support about it but they were useless in diagnosing the issue. They just kept saying remove trust, logout, uninstall app, reinstall and log back in but no 2fa. I eventually asked to remove/disable 2FA/MFA but they said it wasn't possible... shame, I am certain that'll fix the issue (even if its a temporary fix).

I debated getting in touch with them, but expected an outcome similar to yours. Of note, their back end is broken as I can't add my Hive to Alexa or Google Home. Seems like existing authentication is working, but new logins won't work at all unless on the Hive app.

Setup a new HA install and experiencing exactly the same problem. Tried contacting hive on Monday and they said an engineer would email once resolved... Heard nothing since so going to contact on Friday. Can login to everything without 2fa codes so slightly worrying. Have noted that the web dashboard https://my.hivehome.com is working again though....

Same issue for me, new HA user trying to make sense of Hive, no 2FA since creating account, spoke to Hive Support, no real sense to their advise, delete trusted devices then after 24hrs delete app and try again.

I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and do it via zigbee until hive fix it. Much prefer the independent app and using the integration but even the app is having issues for me at the minute. Keep getting emails saying my password was changed successfully (nothings changed).

I have no idea if this will make a difference but I have emailed the Complaints Team @ HiveHome ... definitely a problem at their end!

I did the same on Tuesday - haven't heard back. Hive is basically now a product and marketing division of Centrica - they laid off almost all their technical staff a year or two ago.

If it wasn't for TRVs and on-demand heating I'd replace Hive with zigbee switches and temp sensors. There are several nice thermostat templates for run-on and thermostat emulation.
