Emulating vim-pandoc-syntax style

Hello! Thank you for this excellent plugin. I've been working on customizing
it, so I can replace https://github.com/vim-pandoc/vim-pandoc-syntax
with it, and mostly I managed to achieve this goal, although I have some
issues/questions.

Here's my config (it's still work-in-progress, but it is close enough to be a
replacement for vim-pandoc-syntax for me):

1. It seems that it is not possible to set independently style for heading icon
   and heading title. backgrounds affect icon and title, and foregrounds only
   icon. I'm fine with that, I can style title with :hi, but I wonder if there is
   some option I am missing?

2. Setting link.custom to empty dictionary or nil does not disable custom icons
   by links. I only managed to disable them with
   require('render-markdown.settings').link.default.custom = {}.

   Link icons are too visually overwhelming for me. I would like to
   disable them by default, but sometimes they could be useful.
   Perhaps plugin could allow to enable/disable features (like
   :RenderMarkdown enable but with more granular control)?

3. I could not find a way to style independently footnotes and links. I would
   like to display footnotes similar to what wikis are doing (number in
   square brackets, like [1]; unfortunately, I did not find Unicode
   equivalent of square bracket that works with superscript yet), but it is
   concealed like any normal link, so only number is displayed. On the other
   hand, I would like to add underline to normal links, but
   hi @markup.link.label.markdown_inline guifg=#0645ad gui=underline
   would underline also footnote links. In other words, I would like to add
   underline in []() links and conceal square brackets, but show square
   brackets in footnote links without underline.

   As far I understand, it is not possible without duplication, as
   concealing is hardcoded in runtime queries/markdown_inline/highlights.scm
   file, and more specifically with

   The only option is to edit this file (any modifications will be overwritten
   with package update), or copy it to
   ~/.config/nvim/queries/markdown_inline/highlights.scm, as it will be first
   file that neovim will load. If file does not contain ;; extend, nvim will
   only load this file for this particular filetype. Both options are not very
   convenient.

   nvim 0.13 is to allow to disabling conceal with @noconceal (see
   feat(treesitter/extmark): support removing a conceal highlight neovim/neovim#35087 for more details).

As I'm still working on my config, I'd be interested in seeing what other people
achieved. Wezterm has Show your wezterms discussion for this purpose Variations for Headings and Variations for Code Blocks discussions are both enlightening, but there is no general discussion for complete configs.
