Bugs in New Mask Editor canvas after latest update v0.3.76

Prerequisites

• I am running the latest version of ComfyUI
• I have searched existing issues to make sure this isn't a duplicate
• I have tested with all custom nodes disabled (see how)

What happened?

Expected Behavior
I use Microsoft Surface Studio Laptop to work with ComfyUI in tablet mode. Up until the last version of 0.3.75 I can draw mask or paint on the image inside the Mask Editor canvas without any issue. Image stays in place I can draw the mask on the image inside the Editor canvas normally.

Actual Behavior
Since the latest update 0.3.76, When in tablet mode and using Surface pen for editing the image using New Mask Editor, the pen drags the image around and not drawing the mask as normal.

Steps to Reproduce

Use a tablet or switch to tablet mode ( in my case I use Microsoft Surface Studio Laptop ),
Load an image and open the New Mask Editor to draw the mask on the image

Hi @Digiearts! I'm Dosu and I’m helping the ComfyUI_frontend team.

This bug is known and has been reported by other users, especially on devices using pen or touch input in the new Mask Editor after v0.3.76. The issue is that pen input is being interpreted as a pan (drag) gesture instead of drawing, so the image moves instead of letting you paint a mask. This is due to recent changes in the Mask Editor's input handling: the code does not distinguish between pen and mouse input for drawing vs. panning, and only ignores touch input for drawing. If your device or browser reports pen input similarly to a mouse, it can trigger panning instead of drawing, which matches your experience. You can see a similar report and discussion in issue #6549.

There is no official workaround yet. As a temporary measure, you might try using a mouse for mask drawing or experimenting with browser/device settings that affect how pen input is reported (though results may vary). For maintainers or advanced users, the relevant logic is in PointerZone.vue and useToolManager.ts—adding explicit handling for pointerType === 'pen' in the drawing logic could resolve this regression. The bug appeared after a major refactor and GPU brush engine update (PR #6629, PR #6767), so keep an eye on the related issue and changelog for updates or fixes.

it should be fixed in #7216, tested on ipad + apple pencil, but I don't have surface, so I would like to close this issue for now, please reopen if the issue still exists

Hi @jtydhr88 , I just tested it using ComfyUI portable 0.3.76, Front End version 1.33.13, using Microsoft Surface pen, The same issue is still there. The pen is still dragging the image when drawing mask in the editor. Could you reopen the issue?

Sure, let’s reopen it.
But as I don’t have surface pro, I only tested on iPad + Apple Pencil, we may need to find someone who has it to test

oh @Digiearts I just checked on 1.33.13 doesn't include my change yet, it is on 1.34.7,
Can you help try this version? my fix may also work for your case

Hi @jtydhr88, I just saw your message. I did not yet try the 1.34.7 version, but I just tried 1.35.1 (currently the latest version). It seems the problem is gone. Thanks for your support and good work! ;-)
