latex macros [feature request]

Currently there is no way to make use of latex macros:

• \newcommand
• \def
• \declaremathoperator

If there were a user defined space in the preferences that allowed adding macros, would it be possible to allow inline latex code to make use of those macros perhaps with pandoc's latex_macros?
